So, in short this is my first and last time renting with Dollar. It is the Spirit Airlines of car rentals. The customer service was fine, considering there were over 50 people in line when we arrived. The wait was about 1-hour, so be prepared to wait and it is hot in the lobby.  If you didn’t prepay your rental, or made a same day rental, or god forbid you intend to pay with a debit card, you will likely be turned away. Seems like they overbooked a lot of rentals.  The car we got was brand new less than 300 miles and perfectly fine. So once we actually got to the desk we were good, minus another 20 minute wait outside.  My advice: don’t prepay but do make a reservation so that when you get there in person you can just go to one of the other rental suppliers if the Dollar line is too long, because every other car rental desk was empty with comparable rates. I’d spend $50 more to not wait an hour standing after a flight.  TL;DR the vibes were atrocious but we walked away with a car rental so what more can you ask for by choosing the cheapest rental supplier.

Staff was friendly but definitely will not rent from them again due to the long wait time. Dollar gave the best deals, but I will just pay the extra money. I waited in line for an hour and 15 minutes. Glad we didn't have anything planned. The line was even longer then this after we got our rental, so I am sure those people waited for over 2 hours. You also need a credit card, debit cards are not accepted! They also charge $200 accidental fee, but you get it back once rental car is returned. They also ask about extra coverages like auto gas refill or additional insurance coverage if you would like to add.

The whole rental is a fraud. Be aware with Dollar rental company. I do not recommend to use their service. At rental station, agent forced customer to buy liability insurance for the car does not matter if you have comprehensive insurance which i repeatedly tell them that I already had. Their explanation is that company policy. At return station, nobody came to check the gas tank and give you the report on the spot. Instead, they simply take the car, send you away ASAP, and email you later the receipt with extra charge for gas rate $10.50 per gallon. I did put the gas back in FULL and check the meter before leaving the car and they still charge me extra 2 gallons. Surprisingly, their receipt show gas tank is 7/8 which is they only need 1 gallon but they still charge me 2 gallons. Anyway, my conclusion is the company is a total fraud, and they will get more of your money in every transaction they make. Please stay away from DOLLAR CAR RENTAL SERVICE.

False advertisement and false information provided by Dollar rep for pre paid fuel. I do not need additional services and decline all ALWAYS. I was informed to lock in gas rate with Dollar compare to gas stations nearby. I told rep I do not need a full tank, and clearly stated, I will be charged only for the gas used and gas charge will be adjusted according to usage. Car rental was for 48 hrs, and I was charged full tank $60 and I did not use half the gas!!!! They will not adjust the charge and I am confused how rep thinks it’s OK to tell customers for a full tank and reimburse based on usage. I could have paid $10 a gallon and it would have still been cheaper than pay Dollar car rental for fuel.  Forgot to mention the beginning of the entire process was walking into a line over 40-50 people waiting to rent. Just by far the worst experience with car rental. Just disgusted with the entire process and rental with Dollar. DO NOT rent from them.

I'm not a spiteful reviewer, but this was crazy. Not the clerks' fault. The system allowed way more rental volume than they could handle. The line was over 90 minutes. Then had to wait for a car to be brought. The car itself had something loose underneath, bald tires, and a grinding noise - probably the bearings. Gas tank was not full, but I was told to bring it back full.

Do I have to leave a star? This was the absolute worst service of my life. I verbally declined the premium roadside coverage as well as any additional service. However I had been waiting in line for 1.5 hours at this point, and did not notice that despite my verbally declining the coverage, the clerk had still added it. The day we picked up the car there were roughly  40 people in line with two employees working. It was hot, and every person in line was irritated. We just wanted to get out of there. When we went to the garage to pick up the vehicle there was no one from Dollar anywhere to be seen. Someone from another company told us to take a Subaru Outback. We loaded up, but it wouldn’t start. Had to go hunt down said employee again. Took a different car. Which reeked of pot by the way! A few hours after we returned the car I got the invoice and saw that the we had been charged about $180 for upgrades that we declined. When I disputed it, Dollar said since I signed it, I accepted it. DO NOT RENT HERE!

PLEASE DO NOT RENT ANYTHING FROM THIS COMPANY!!!! It was total disappointment and inconvenience… 1. When I arrived at the counter after a 45 min wait in line, the car I booked and reserved had been sold already although I paid for it in full before I arrived. 2. So I was giving a upgrade to the next level car , and was told it would be the same price but it wasn’t I was charged 400$ more for this car which was unacceptable but I had no choice because I was late for a meet. I was told to come back the next day and return it but when I called to do that I was informed that the car I wanted was still not available. 3. I called customer care and told them about my experience and was told they would notate my account, and when I return the car, the price will be adjusted, so the next day when I called customer care again, I was told that there were no notes in the system about my situation, and I was highly upset Common that representative assured me that my discrepancy was noted in the system . But it never was as I called back today The issue with the rental car was not only that I was charged more for a car that I had reserved and paid for upfront, but I had to pay more for a upgrade that I did not even want karma. Also, the car was dirty had other peoples belongings in the trunk And it smelled of marijuana and cigarette smoke . I was so embarrassed, putting my boss and the rental car because of the smell of marijuana. I could have lost my job. Also, the car was not on fool. It was 3/8 of a Way full. I really think they took a dirty car from the return line and gave it to me just to satisfy me. This place is totally unacceptable and you should avoid it like the plague. 0stars

It is quite sad that I've been in line for over an hour to rent a car. I've rented through Dollar several times from many locations.  All the reviews are negative and it speaks to the company and this specific location.  Is corporate going to step in and address this debacle?

Its about a 90 minute wait for your car at the houston hobby location. That is crazy but know that going in. We rented a car for 11 days. Dollar was 300 dollars cheaper than enterprise. If you are only renting for a few days go with a different company. But if you have a long rental its worth an hour or two. Drop off and airport transfer were great.  I locked my keys in the car and they were able to remotely unlock in about 20 mins time. I would use again.

If I could give them 0, ZERO, NADA. I would! These illiterate staff agents at dollar charged me $300 for a “missing” key and $57 for gas. The key is in fact NOT missing and was placed in the cup holder per the check in agent, I also fueled the car up to F and should have NOT been charged with gas. I have been on the phone for multiples days with agents who keep informing me they have refunded me my money but this morning 395.00 was STILL drafted out my account. I had to speak with a supervisor who gave me points for a day rental I WILL NEVER BE RENTING WITH THIS COMPANY AGAIN SO NO WORRIES THEY WILL NOT BE BEING USED please do not rent with this if you don’t want the inconvenience of having to wait for a refund for illiterate agents. 5-7 days to have MY money refunded to me. Ridiculous, I’m so upset!
