Founded in 1958 by John "Big Daddy" Bishop, the original Dreamland Cafe still stands in the Jerusalem Heights neighborhood of Tuscaloosa. A brick mason by trade, Mr. Bishop built the cafe with his own two hands on the property adjacent to his house. In the beginning, the world-famous ribs were served alongside a menu of hamburgers and hotdogs (among other things), but soon were erased to make room for ribs full time. Servers donned t-shirts of "Menu? What Menu?", license plates hung from the walls and Big Daddy smoked that pipe. Since '58, we've made a few changes, like adding smoked chicken, sides and sandwiches to the menu, but our ribs and sauce are still cooked the way Big Daddy taught us all those years ago. Stop by one of our locations and see why he used to say "Ain't nothing like 'em nowhere!"
