We love the short walks around EL Johnson. Chance to see some wildlife, deer, fox, muskrats, turtles, lots of quite large fish, &c. The indoor center is also fun for younger kids. Though, we always seem to miss the “programs”. Our fault, of course. We should plan ahead. Bring some carrots or apples for the caged deer. If you forget, there is a crabapple tree just a hundred yards or so north of the pens. Sometimes you can grab the low hanging fruit. Do NOT feed the raptors, though.
A true highlight of my childhood into adulthood having such a wonderful well maintained nature preserve year round so close to where I grew up. Lovely scenic walk, lots of trails, family friendly. No dogs allowed, so not pet friendly. No fishing either, please respect the integrity of the preserve! Worth the stop.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
Beautiful, clean, nice trails. Everything was gorgeous with the exception of the wooden bridge on the other side of the lake was sinking and rope off. We didn't know something was wrong until we got to the sinking part with the kids.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
Best trails. It's a maze and a new trail around every corner! 10/10
This is a beautiful spot with a heartwoming view and history. Nice preservation area and quiet lake with a lot of educational signs and fun activities. It even has a couple animals you can watch or feed.
Another great visit. Nice day to be out and rake advantage of the trails here. I wore some anti slip type of thingies on my shoes and they worked out great. Nice to be back here.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
We had a lot of fun on the trails. Did not go in buildings. Tons of freedom on the trails. Beautiful scenery. Just the only animals we saw were in cages and we didn't bring apples and that was sad.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
Beautiful trails. We've seen ducks, geese, turtles, fish, deer, frogs, muskrat and snakes here. It's an incredible nature center. The staff inside is awesome and friendly. They keel expanding and adding trails, somehow making it even been than it already was. This place is perfect for a day of exploration.
Peaceful hiking and exploring. Saw muskrats, deer, variety of birds. Also had 1 rescued deer and a a rescued great horned owl. Managed to get just over 3 miles of hiking by covering all of the trails with minimal doubling. There are some trails not on the map.
We love the trails here! Some of the bridges need a little maintenance to make them more sturdy/accessible. Other than that- beautiful.
