E. Renee Smith, MD, FAAOS, Orthopedic Surgeon - Find a Top Doc
Recognized as one of the leading physicians of the world by the International Association of Orthopedic Surgeons, Dr. Smith has over 20 years of experience in the field of Orthopedic Surgery. As a Board Certified Orthopedic Surgeon and Fellow of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, she is highly qualified and capable of treating all of your musculoskeletal needs.
Dr. Smith graduated from the University of Utah School of Medicine. She received her training in Orthopedics at the University of California Davis from world renowned surgeons in the field. She spent several years teaching residents in New York at SUNY Upstate Medical Center before she settled on the Central Coast over ten years ago. Dr. Smith continues to teach students as a regular guest lecturer at California Polytechnic State University in the Department of Materials and Engineering.
She has a special interest in the up and coming field of Regenerative Medicine. She believes that the emerging techniques for regenerating new tissue and repairing old damaged tissue will fill in the gaps of treatment where before there were few options other than highly invasive surgery. She acknowledges that these new procedures will not fully take the place of time honored and gold standard surgical treatment, but she believes that early intervention in the process of disease using these procedures may indeed delay the need for more invasive surgery and provide relief for those who for some reason are not good candidates for surgery.
Dr. Smith obtained her training in the techniques of stem cell harvesting and isolation from Dr. Maritza Novas, Chief Medical Officer of Global Stem Cell Group, world leaders in the field of Regenerative Medicine.
