STANDARD OPERATING PROCEDURE
MISSION STATEMENT
The Athletic Training Department is charged with coordinating the health care of the students participating in the intercollegiate athletic programs sponsored by Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. The goal of the department is to provide a safe and rewarding athletic experience by providing necessary athletic training services for the student athletes in a timely manner. Athletic training services are provided in conjunction and coordinated with the team physicians, University Student Health Services, and other medical resources as necessary. The services provided by the Athletic Training Department shall comply with standards of the Pennsylvania Medical Practice Act, the Pennsylvania Osteopathic Medical Practice Act, the Board of Certification Standards of Practice and the National Athletic Trainers’ Association (NATA) Code of Ethics, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Rules and Guidelines, and NATA Position Statements. The Athletic Training Staff is committed to continuing education to update and improve skills and knowledge so as to provide the athletic population with the best care possible.
Athletics at Edinboro University is considered an important part of the institutional program of education that provides experiences that will assist in the development of the physical, mental and emotional aspects of the student-athlete. As an institution of higher learning, we are committed to the development of the entire individual and athletic training is committed to the health and safety of those individuals. The University promotes an environment in which fair and equitable distribution of overall athletic opportunities, benefits, and resources are available to men and women and one in which student-athletes are not subject to gender-based discrimination. No individual shall be discriminated against on the basis of gender, race, sport, or skill level in the delivery of athletic training services at Edinboro University.
The athletic training services include but are not limited to:
1. Provide pre-participation physical examinations for all entering intercollegiate athletes.
2. Evaluation, care and treatment for injuries sustained while participating as an athlete for Edinboro University.
3. Rehabilitation of injuries sustained while participating as an athlete for Edinboro University.
4. Referral of the athlete to proper medical professionals for conditions outside the scope of athletic training services.
5. Athletic training coverage of intercollegiate contests and practices.
6. Provide counseling for athletes on nutrition, alcohol use, and performance enhancing substances.
