Bringing together current and future students, faculty, and alumni of the Communication Studies Department to share ideas, information, and inspiration!
The Department of Communication, Journalism, and Media prepares students for a variety of careers in mass media, public relations, sales and related industries. Program graduates are able to effectively speak, write, create, persuade, lead, think critically, and work with others - life-long skills identified by the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) as the most important qualities employers seek in new hires.
Department faculty possess a broad range of academic credentials and extensive professional and teaching experience in areas including public relations, digital production, print media, training and consulting, organizational leadership, persuasion and sales, health and communication, and intercultural communication. Majors work one-on-one with faculty members to customize a plan of study that reflects the interests of each individual student.
The Department maintains a variety of digital product studios and media labs, as well as a television studio, weekly campus newspaper, and 3,000-watt-noncommerical radio station. Students from all academic departments are encouraged to become involved in a variety of professionally-based co-curricular activities, including our campus media organizations (ETV, The Spectator and WFSE-FM), Applied Communicators of Edinburg (ACE) and award-winning chapter of the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).
To empower, educate, and promote our students and their interests.
