Edison Woods MetroPark

Description

Approximately 5½ miles of the planned 7 mile public trail system is open to the public for hiking, cross country skiing, and horse-back riding. Areas that are not marked for public use are closed to park visitors. Signs are posted along all open trails. Please stay on established trails, roadways, and parking areas.

In September 2005, the Adventure Walkway was opened to the public. The walkway is a six foot wide raised boardwalk with benches to take a rest or just enjoy the trees and birds. It weaves for about 1/2 mile through the largest forest in Northern Ohio (Edison Woods).

A wonderful place for a rambling walk with some unexpected elevation changes. Several miles of trails. Very well maintained. Several trips would be needed to walk them all. Definitely one of the larger and more interesting parks in the area.
I do a lot of hiking in Florida and Ohio. This is probably the best maintained trail and the best marked trail I have ever been on. At each intersection there was a sign and a map. A “you are here” sign etc. A thorough explanation at the trailhead about each trail and they were all color coded. This is a very pretty deeply wooded area. The ghost railroad trail was very interesting. It ran along the bottom part of a 50 ft high cliff. The reason for this well graded trail was for quarrying sandstone. If you look closely you can see a lot of the stone is square cut and you can see the holes drilled for dynamite. I hiked on a rainy morning so only one other vehicle parked in the lot. This a gorgeous venue with some history and lots of different trails to choose from.
Fantastic location to walk through and enjoy nature. Easy to find location and paths. Each path is clearly marked by signs and colored markers on trees along the way. I like to walk the paths at all times of the year however the pictures are of early spring, just before everything starts to come up. The colors you find all year round are always beautiful. They have hunting during deer season in this area for a specific number of permits. Mushroom hunting is big in this area also, us locals love them. You can see all sorts of birds including the occasional eagle that stops by. The turkey’s in the area are often hanging out around here too. They have beautiful paths for walking, running, and hiking. Many trails are dog friendly and some are horse friendly also. Handicap parking available. Port a potty located at entrance.
Nice hiking trails. The "blaze" marker colors coincide with the trail map. The one I would definitely stay away from is the West Oak hickory Trail. This Trail is not well marked and is totally on grass. Lots of holes from the horses made it tough to hike. All the other trails we were on, were well marked. Nice little half mile loop was the adventure walkway. This boardwalk loop gave information about the area. Porta potty on site.
Neatly kept park with raised boardwalk paths. Nice short walking loop. I would have given five stars, but there is no picnic tables as I was excited to come here for a picnic. People throw their to-go boxes into the woods because there are no garbage cans. There is an outhouse. I took my trash with me, after having my picnic in my car. I recommend picnic tables and waste receptacles.
My favorite nature place. It is massive and so beautiful. You can walk for hours and not see a single person, which is how it should be. I always feel refreshed when I leave :
Always a great place to take a walk and enjoy nature...beautiful and peaceful.
Beuriful place and easy trail to follow
Great place to walk the dogs. Bring mosquito spray or you will regret it. On our most recent visit, we were almost hit by a large falling tree limb that was overhanging the walking trail. It fell just as we passed under it. This is a risk anytime you are walking in the woods but thought I would mention it. Watch out for the horse patties.
One of our favorite parks. Really great trails for hiking, lots of space and very peaceful. We were even able to do a Merida inspired photoshoot just before winter.
