I somehow, by some sort of miracle, stumbled across this place while traveling from montreal to New jersey. I took a gamble and turned off the highway looking for somewhere to stay and then saw a sign for Elk Lake Lodge. I followed a dirt track for about 5 miles and then there I was in the most peaceful and idyllic place imaginable. Upon walking into the reception I was met with a warm welcome and managed to get a room for the night without a booking. It was a Monday so I think I was lucky! Absolutely stunning lake and surrounding Flora and fauna set in 12,000 acres of private land. Wonderfully kind and friendly staff, a comfortable room with a view, a roaring fire in the main house in the evening and all inclusive tasty meals served in the dining room. Tonnes of charm and an absolute gem of a place. Thanks to everyone at Elk Lake Lodge for making such a special memory for me to cherish.
Can't say enough good things about The Elk Lake Lodge! Truly exceeded expectations. Brought my mom here for her 75th birthday and I want to thank the staff for such an amazing and memorable experience. Everyone was kind and welcoming, the sort of service you'd expect from a 5 star place in NYC. I felt that everyone not only cared about the guests but also the land and surrounding ecology. A few highlights: - The food. Top notch and sourced from regional farms. Dinner was buffalo bolognese and I can't stop thinking about it - Marshmallows on the beach at sunset. Thanks Carly! - Surrounding trails. Including small informational markers about plants and their uses among the indigenous community. So cool. - Loons at sunrise. - The other guests. It was fun meeting everyone and hearing their stories. - The boats and lake I'm surely missing details here and the location and views speak for themselves. I highly recommend this lodge for anyone looking for a remote getaway to hike, fish, paddle, or just relax and be around fantastic people in nature. Rooms: Spacious, clean, quiet, and woodsy Nearby activities: Hiking, fishing, hunting in season, swimming, rowing, kayaking, canoeing Food & drinks: Awesome and locally sourced. Creative dinner menu which rotates daily. Trail lunches are packed day-of and include veggi options if you'd like. Breakfast is unreal. Rotating main item daily with options to add whatever you'd like.
We love to visit lodges, inns and B&Bs and the Elk Lake Lodge is right up there with the best. First and foremost we wanted to stress how wonderful the staff is at Elk Lake Lodge. Mike, you are very fortunate to have these folks. We met Joanne, Kim, who has a liking for Kombucha tea Shannon, and Michelle. When I say the laughs we had can’t be measured - it’s so true. They made us feel welcome the minute we stepped through the door. It seemed like we knew each other for a long time already. Such kind and caring ladies. We understand their jobs can be stressful at times but one would never know it! They were on top of everything. Also, our first encounter at the front desk was very welcoming and she was so bubbly and helpful. We had about 20 questions and she answered them all for us. So sorry we forgot her name but she was from Brighton not far from where we live. Another pleasant surprise was meeting a number of ADK VOLUNTEERS working on improving the trails this past week! I could go on and on about these folks. Everyone we came in contact with was so friendly and wonderful. They VIEW from the property is breathtaking. The dock was the perfect place to sit in one of the adirondack chairs and read or just let the natural beauty of Elk Lake and the High Peaks range relax and refresh the mind. The trails we took were great ….there are trails for all levels of hikers. The food was large portions and excellent. The cabin we stayed in was very accommodating with a great view. Quiet and peaceful. Bottom line....Elk Lake Lodge has everything one could ever need for both an energy filled or restful getaway. It is the perfect wilderness paradise for hiking the many local and high peak trails or to just rest and rejuvenate your mind and soul! Our getaway has moved to number 1 on our list from all the places we have visited in 33 years.
What a beautiful place! Right in the middle of Adirondacks high peaks, gorgeous spot on Elk Lake. Everything is excellent accommodations service food etc. not cheap but if you are looking for a luxury option in the high peaks this is it.Rooms: 5/5
Visited the ground during the #handlebarley bike tour. Absolutely gorgeous location on the back side of the High Peaks.Location: 5/5
Do NOT go near the lodge if you’re not a guest. Non-Guests are not welcomed. I’m a photographer and drove down to take a few pictures by the lake/of the lodge then ask about lodging because I didn’t have cell service to call or go to their website. Instead I was yelled at for parking in the guest parking area. All rudeness aside, I’m sure this is a great place to stay. It looked amazing with the peak foliage… wish I could share the foliage photos of the lodges that I couldn’t take with everyone. Guess you have to go see for yourself, if you want.
So many disappointments. Neither morning offered fruit for breakfast even though it’s on the menu. Dinner one night was only one course. No salad because they were serving coleslaw that night. Really! Row boats were claimed and not given up for entire visit by fisherman. Not really first come first serve as advertised. Trails were very poorly marked snd not well maintained. As experienced hikers we were shocked by the lack of trail markers. It was stated that rooms were not being cleaned because of Covid which seemed lame. Not even a coffee maker in the rooms. No programs or activities were offered at any point in our stay. As beautiful as the setting is we felt the place was highly overpriced and and one could do much better at other Adirondack Resorts that offer all that was absent at Elk Lake Lodge. The owners claim they try to keep the place affordable. To me it looks like we are all foolishly funding their grand personal camp.
This spot was the perfect mix of outdoor and elegance. Many different trails, right from the Lodge. We took Sunrise Mt. to the summit. Great views of Elk Lake and Clear Pond. Plus, it's a great trail for those not brave enough for any of the high peaks yet. The living room in the Main Lodge is a great spot to do some reading. The staff and guests are all great. Truly a picturesque little spot in the heart of the high peaks.
Stayed here to hike the Dix range. I wish that I had more time to enjoy the beautiful lodge and surrounding areas. The views are spectacular and so serene. The main lodge is really well done. Beautiful wood throughout, loved the doors. The common areas with the fireplace and the library were very inviting. The porch with the Adirondack chairs and blankets was just perfect. The rooms are small, but the beds were so comfortable. I do like to listen to tv or my ipad while going to sleep so my only regret is not downloading some programming before the stay as the wifi did not extend the rooms, and I was unable to download once there. However, that is on me. Staff was very friendly, the lodge was very clean. I will definitely return just to enjoy the peacefulness of the area minus the 13 mile hike :.
This is an iconic lodge, I have been looking forward to spending time here for a while however I have not set foot in the door yet and I'm already disappointed by the staffs attitude. Yesterday I drove up to make sure I knew the location correctly as the hotel opens next week and I am planning a romantic weekend. Arriving at the gate to the property I saw 2 rangers and a man with an Elk Lake Lodge hoodie, I approached to ask questions and identified myself as a future guest. The man then spat directly at my feet, said that the lodge would "gladly take my money" in a tone that implied it was a highly priced scam and told me to get off the property. Bearing in mind I was outside the gates and had simply walked over to ask questions, I was pretty shocked. To spit at someone's feet is disgusting, offensive and not cool, to belittle the hotel that pays your bills, plain stupid. This man was NOT a representation of what the lodge stands for and should be removed.
