North Carolina Mining Museum - Real Mines, Museums, Gem Mining and More!

Description

Discover a fascinating, educational and fun place to visit! Emerald Village features 12 historic mines along with museums, shops, gem-mining, gold panning and mine tours in the spectacular Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina. The 12 real mines have yielded over 54 different types of rocks, minerals, and gems including Aquamarine, Beryl, Emerald, Garnet, Smoky Quartz, Gold, Uranium, & fluorescent minerals. Historic preservation of the mines and the opportunity to prospect for gems make Emerald Village the center of North Carolina gem, mineral and rock-hound adventures! Some of the things you'll enjoy are the North Carolina Mining Museum, the Gemstone Mine, the Company Store (an old mining town in miniature), the Model Railroad display, the Antique Music Museum, as well as Gem, Mineral & Black-Light exhibits. Sandwiches, snacks, drinks, souvenirs, & indoor/outdoor picnic areas are available. We are open daily April through October.
