I met a poor guy in a wheelchair three years prior to now and he shared that UVA doctors requested if he had any money in his pockets. They tried to gain a debt in this crooked way. They attempted to physically shake a disabled person down and I'll advise this wherever I am. No-one is advocating for disabled and they chain plenty of money from their Couric cancer center enough to try to treat non affiliates like some joke. Those doctors are mentally ill and ought to be be investigated to the most fullest extent of the law. Do your best to go to another state for your care if you have not got Medicaid or Medicare. These staff are not for high maintenance care.
I feel safe confident with all the Dr and nurses with their knowledge of knowing and how care for me. here at cancer center. Actually I really like my Dr n nurses n I get on mychart they respond next day. Some times same day
My wife has been a patient since December and we've spent five 4-night weekends at the Ritz-Chemo on 3 South. The prices are what you'd expect at a 5 star resort. The service and staff are amazing, but the food is disappointing for a resort of this caliber, and the "spa treatments" while life saving, are frankly toxic. You'll feel worse when you leave than when you arrived, but with luck you'll also live longer for the experience.
If I could give less than one star I would! You all should be ashamed. My mom went in for chemo and before they started they run labs. When my mother asked the nurse if her labs were okay, the nurse looked her in the eye and LIED TO HER!!! They gave her the chemo treatment. When my parents were leaving the doctor came running after them to say the labs were off and if my mom started falling etc to come back to the hospital. My mom WAS BLEEDING INTERNALLY!!!! Yet they still never caught it or told us anything!! They said her muscles were weak from no use!?! IDIOTS. They sent my mom to a “rehab” center and she was treated as if she was lazy it wasn’t until her BP dropped that she was taken to the Emergency Room where they correctly diagnosed her!!! She died August 22, 2022. What a joke this whole experience was! We even asked for an advocate never got a call back! Is this how Dr Bellar wants Emily’s name remembered???? Oh by the way my mother also worked for you Dr Bellar! Her name was Linda Quast LINDA QUAST LINDA QUAST LINDA QUAST LINDA QUAST Do yourself a favor and go to a Fairfax and stay the hell away from this place!!! Even on her death bed my mother could hear everything and the damn doctor is talking about just keeping her comfortable until she passes. How do I know she heard it? Because tears streamed down her cheeks. I live with this image every damn day.
We have not had the opportunity to see a dr yet but I am less than impressed with their phone staff. I asked a very important question and was told by the phone staff that he was very busy and needed to move on and couldn’t answer my question. I was floored.
The nurses are lovely and completely dedicated to providing excellent care. The wait times on the other hand are completely atrocious. They are extremely backed up and it’s been that way for the past 3 months. It is no reason to have an APPOINTMENT for 3:30 and still be sitting in the waiting area until 5pm and possibly longer than that to be seen.
Yesterday was my first day of treatment in the infusion center. I checked in on the ground floor - great experience. She gave me instructions on where to go next for my multiple appointments that day. I checked in at the infusion center for them to draw blood/do lab work. Another great experience where I was instructed where to go next to see my Oncologist, who is Dr. Portell. He and his staff are super - shout out to his nurse Lauren who is fantastic. Then it was back to the infusion center where the trouble began. It was very full and crowded, as confirmed by a man I met who was there for his last treatment. I watched and waited my turn for what seemed to be too long, but they were running behind evidently. After an hour of waiting I went up to the nurse in charge of determining which patients went next their form of triage. She looked at me stunned after I asked her for a time estimate as I'd been waiting over an hour. "Did you check back in after you appointment?" she demanded. "if you don't check in we have no way of knowing you are here. There are too many people here for us to keep track of. " I believe they do know, because I had a 9:45 appointment. I was taken aback by her lack of empathy and kindness and her loud announcement making me feel as if I had done something wrong. Surely these are hard days for health care workers, but everyone of us in that waiting room were either cancer patients or caregivers. Everyday is a hard day. And did I mention this was my FIRST DAY of treatment? A little grace and compassion would have gone a long way. A simple solution would have been to tell me to check in BEFORE I left for my Dr. apt. after having blood drawn. Things did pick up after that and my infusion nurses - Wynnie & Rebecca - were wonderful. I was too flustered to say anything to the triage nurse, but I plan to do so the next time I see her there.
Doctor Fedder and her staff are great people. Professional, courteous, kind, and efficient. Doctor Fedder performed a radical tonsillectomy on me to remover a cancerous tumor. I was so impressed with Doctor Fedder, her staff, and all of the nurses/attendants on the 6th floor. Today, I am still cancer free, and continue to remember the first class service I received at UVA. I am so glad God led me to them, and every time I go back to UVA for a follow up appointment with Doctor Fedder I am reminded of the professional care she provides.
Generally speaking, the staff of the cancer center itself is usually fantastic. We have been extremely lucky that my son's oncology team had been amazing! This has nothing to do with ECCC itself. What I find absolutely APPALLING is that they are charging cancer patients and their families to valet park if they have a handicap placard or license plate, THEN if you attempt to park in the garage, there aren't enough spaces. People are sleeping in their cars, park their cars across multiple spaces, employees park there, the valet spaces are never used, but ALWAYS blocked off. It is RIDICULOUS and just not right!
It's been a couple years since I was last here and I was hoping by now, I'd be over the trauma of what I went through, but it's something I've had to relive every single day for the past 3 years. It's a very long story and Google reviews doesn't allow enough characters for me to get into the meat of it, but the gist is that I was abused physically and mentally by one of the oncologists employed here - and who is still working here, might I add. The abuse was so horrific, I attempted to take my own life because of it. Afterwards, I tried to report this to the hospital and I made sure to include that I tried to end myself as a direct result of the abuse I endured from this doctor. The hospital board concluded their "investigation" by saying she was right to treat me the way she did because I was "too young to properly give consent." I mean...what? I was 26 at the time, but even if I was a minor, I don't see how that excuses the gross negligence of a patient? On top of that, there were several other instances I filed complaints over and the hospital tried to gaslight me by claiming the events I reported...never happened. It got to a point where I was starting to think the cancer had metastasized to my brain and was making me hallucinate, so I was frequently fact checking with acquaintances who bore witness to these events to make sure their memories lined up with mine. Cancer is traumatic enough on its own, but now I have all these trust issues, PTSD, and anxiety piled on due to being taken advantage of by someone I should have been able to trust. They didn't even get rid of my cancer. I had to go to a completely different hospital to receive real treatment. So yeah, in summary, do not recommend this place.
