After I tried to call to speak the manager about today’s experience and didn’t receive a call back, I’ll do a review instead. The inconsistent rules and incompetent life guards made this an awful experience. My almost 7 year old did 2 laps around the lazy river before being told he is too young. After 10 minutes, he magically became tall enough to do it. Which is it? My 2 year old was near me and took a step off into the kid area. He went in head first and was under. Not a single lifeguard noticed. They were too busy flirting, singing, and having their bottoms hanging out of their swimsuits. My son was measured for the outdoor slide and was told he was tall enough. After 40 minutes of continually going down the slide, they decided to remeasure him. He suddenly became too short and was asked to walk down. So, you deemed it unsafe but let him go down time and time again. I was met with snarky and rude staff all through the pool area. The manager of the lifeguards said to me “I heard about all of your rules. God forbid we have rules” After the inconsistent rules which I still can’t find online coupled with the overly priced day pass… we will never be back. I never ended up getting any reasonable explanation. To top it off, I couldn’t get a refund because I was there “too long” I spent most of my time trying to talk to lifeguards to make sense of why rules were always changing.
My experience at Riverchase has been fantastic. I started out in the senior classes doing silver sneaker classes and as I felt I could do more signed up for other classes that I thought I was capable of doing. To my surprise I was able to do more and their instructors are fabulous. They tell you what to do to modify an exercise if you cannot do that particular one. My cholesterol was sky high and with the exercise classes I have been doing it is now below normal. I encourage anyone who feels they can do more to sign up for a class and if you feel it is too hard talk to the instructor and always go back more than once because it does get easier. Everyone should challenge themselves . Just want to thank the great instructors for their time and patience.
False advertisement! We joined Riverchase Y because of the indoor pool that is great for kids; however, the indoor pool is not opened the entire summer for kids. Why was this not mentioned to members who pay good money to swim inside at the Y? Will the Y being discounting memberships since families with kids cannot use the indoor pool? I do want to add that every time we swim indoors, the lifeguards are fantastic and it is appreciated.
We will never be bringing our family back to this facility. If I could give it a zero star I would. My wife just brought our 3 sons to the pool and was repeatedly met with lifeguards not doing their job, snarky attitudes, and trying to enforce rules that are not posted anywhere. One such rule was only kids 8 and older are allowed in the lazy river, however this rule was reversed twice by the lifeguard in the time they were there. My son was measured for the slide, slid down for 40 min then they decided he was then not tall enough and was made to walk down the stairs sobbing. Lifeguards were only concerned about flirting with each other and which dental school they were going to. Awful, and will never be returning under YMCA's ownership. I grew up in Fenton and my kids will not know how great that place used to be. Stay away from this rec center. Can’t wait for the canned response of “sorry you didn’t have a good experience” nothing will change
I would give it 5 stars but the lack of equipment for weightlifters, to accommodate for the times where the gym is crowded, has been impacting the quality of my workouts. There are not enough adjustable benches available. Need about 2 more. It would also be nice to have dumbbells larger than 100 pounds. There are also not enough weighted plates for the machines/barbells. I find myself spending a lot of time looking for what I need
Love the Riverchase Y. I participate in the senior fitness programs. The instructors are wonderful. Positive and encouraging. They give great instruction how to safely perform exercises without injury. Friendly outgoing staff. Very clean and organized.
We were members last year when they switched over to YMCA. It was ok for a time but every time we went up to swim their pool was closed for one reason or another and we were unable to swim. We were planning on going up this weekend to try them out again to see if maybe we would possibly get a membership again only to learn that you can’t use the pool to swim on the weekend unless you’re a member! They didn’t want our $ that it cost for our family to swim $13 for 13+ and $7 for under 13 and we’ll go to Arnold Rec center! It’s cheaper too! Only $6/ person. And they let you swim on the weekends!!!
I'm not sure what half these reviews are talking about. We have a y membership and have used the inside pool with our kids multiple times over the summer. Other then the jets in the hottub left bruises, I've got 0 complaints about the pool itself. Lifeguards are teens and seem to each have their own rules. No 2 have the same so each change over you have to figure things out. But they have vests and pool noodles. Indoor and outdoor pool access.
I'm a member primarily for the pool and the childcare. I've renewed every year, even through Covid and through the extended repair issues that kept the pool closed for another season beyond that. I know Riverchase is dealing with staffing issues, but unless they expand the pool hours soon, I won't be renewing. 12pm-6pm is too limited for working families and/or families with kids that still nap. I used to love going to the pool as a family after work, and that's no longer an option. I love supporting my community center, and their transition to YMCA, but I'm here for the pool and those hours aren't enough, and we'll have to go elsewhere for summer fun.
We joined RiverChase YMCA in September and absolutely love it! We've used the equipment, walked the track, done water classes, Silver Sneakers classes, MX4 and other classes. The Y has become a wonderful community with us looking forward to seeing and talking with fellow members in the classes as well as the staff. The instructors have all been anazing! They do a great job with mixing things up, giving clear instructions and answering questions. The staff are super friendly and helpful. Kevin and Ed do an amazing job keeping the Y clean! I'm thankful they have live-streamed classes as well. I much prefer going in person. However, I've taken advantage of this option when we had icy weather and when we had summer storms that took the power out at the Y. Thank you for all you do!!!
