My name is Trish and I'm a busy Mom and wife. I get up at 4 a.m. each morning to pack lunches, walk the dogs, eat breakfast and get to the gym before my kids even have a chance to hit the snooze button. A Registered Nurse for the past 25 years, a Certified Nutritionist and Health & Wellness Coach, I have five children ages 12-23 who have given my life a depth and meaning I could never have imagined when I was in my 20's. I started this page because although I've "worked out" for most of my adult life, I never really made myself, my health, or my fitness a priority. For me it's always been family first. I thought that putting my family before myself was what I was supposed to do, but what I eventually realized (and it only took me 45 years) was that instead of being a positive role model for my children, I was demonstrating that my own needs were secondary. My children didn't see me as strong and capable, they saw me as someone without a voice.
Sometimes it takes a crisis, or in my case several, before we experience profound change. For me the catalyst began with watching my family emerge from the crisis of addiction, suffering with my own health issues including TIA's (mini-strokes) in the Fall of 2011 and going through the shock and disbelief of having a child diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, before I realized it was time to make changes. I finally made myself a priority and it's amazing the positive impact it's had on my entire family. I thought putting myself first was selfish. I now understand that by putting myself first, I am leading my children by example.
This page isn't just about MY journey though. I want to support and encourage other people in their own journeys because I've experienced firsthand how this process has freed me to be my very best self. We all have different goals. We all have different dreams. Through Fitness MOMents I've been able to help others reclaim their fitness and empower others to become their best selves! I believe we are fellow sojourners whose obligation it is to help one another along the way.
