Description

The first Forest Hill location has served the Memphis area since 1888. We believe memories serve as living tributes to the departed, but also play an important part in the process of grieving. For this reason, we take great care in arranging personalized funeral services to create a meaningful celebration of a person who meant so much.

Forest Hill South was established in 1962, and is located near the Mississippi River and T O Fuller State Park, close to the Memphis International Airport. Serving as the resting place for many of the area’s prominent and founding families’ members, the grounds consist of a well-landscaped brick entryway leading into a park divided into several well-manicured gardens.

Our staff provides guidance and specialized attention before, during and after the loss of a loved one. Forest Hill South offers traditional in-ground burials, lawn crypts, mausoleum interments, traditional funerals, personalized funerals, memorial and graveside services, various cremation options, and military honors for Veterans.

Awful such an awful place. How they live with themselves is beyond me. It took over six weeks to have my Uncle cremated. Charged over $4000 just to cremate him, no services, no embalming, no transport, nothing. They won't answer the phone, they do not return calls. We had to drive over 80 miles one way on two occasions just to check on the status on him. It's been over two months and we still haven't received a death certificate. Sad way to treat grieving families. They should be ashamed of themselves. And then there's my mother's grave, I'll let the pictures say what needs to be said. Edit: New photos 4/22/2022 Buried my Aunt and Uncle after waiting 7 weeks for the cremation. We had to wallow around in mud and water like hogs. And an update on my mother's tombstone, a year and a half later there still isn't a plaque on it with her name after paying for it in October 2020. We have about 14 family members buried here. No more! Wish I could move them elsewhere! Sad way to treat people.
Buried mom and dad there. Grounds are not well taken care of. Its muddy and needs some dirt distributed and grass seed sown. Very disappointing. Mom and dad paid for the plots in the 70's. They are turning in their graves today.
If I could give a lower rating I certainly would do so. I responded based on the information from the paperwork my brother and I acquired from Forest Hill at the South location in Memphis, TN. We lost our baby sister in December 2020. I received an email with the rendering on July 9, 2021 that had the incorrect date of death. I sent an email back with the correction on the same day and was told that the process will move forward. I was in town this past weekend October 2021 to visit my sister’s site and noticed that she is still without her headstone 10 months later. My brother and I are very heavy hearted not for just this lost, but we also lost our mother in March 2020. As you can imagine we have a lot of emotions going on. I know that the headstone will not bring our baby sister back, but it will help with emotional stability. I noticed two plots in front of her have their headstones and their date of death was after hers. I continue to follow up with no resolutions and now time is coming that our baby sister is still without her headstone almost one year later.
Isaiah Mays is one of the most unprofessional people I've every had to deal with. There is no honor in what he says. I've been trying to resolve the issue with my Mom's headstone for over 6 months. She died last year and the headstone was approved and paid in full on August 4th of 2020. It is still not down and when you call Isaiah Mays is rude and hangs up in your face. DO NOT DEAL WITH THESE PEOPLE. They have no problem taking your money but, the services provided are deplorable. I'm currently engaging with a lawyer to try and get results.
My mother was buried in Forest Hill South on Sept 15. She had a prepaid plan with everything selected. As of today there is still no headstone on her grave. I’ve spent the last 4 months chasing people to even get an update. I finally spoke with Dee Farris this week after I threatened to call the Corporate office. We were unable to have a funeral because of the pandemic but we were planning a celebration for Mother’s Day. At the pace we’re going I doubt if the headstone will be in place. Awful customer service!
Forest Hill East ; Ms Helen Ponder was excellent as the funeral director. Everyone was extremely friendly and compassionate. They offered the minor things to make our family more comfortable and were very kind. I received my husbands death certificates within 2 weeks and they promptly notified me. They worked very well with our minister. My only hesitation in giving them 5 stars was the time it took to get his lettering placed on our mausoleum crypt. It took 6 months and I had to make several calls, but it was completed. This was a prearranged service and I was overall very pleased.
I prepaid for my cremation in 2012. I told the worker I didn't want any memorial service just cremated and my family could scatter my ashes on my late husbands grave. He said that was against the law, that I would have to buy an urn and vault. So He writes up the contract and shakes my hand. He was very nice. Then I requested a bronze military memorial marker for my late husband grave site. He filled out the paperwork. So in 2014 there still was no marker and I went to the office there and talked to them and was told they would check on it. I also wanted to make sure my cremation was taken care of so family wouldn't have to be out any money when I pass. Well let me tell you I was in shock to find out my cremation wasn't paid for. Why can't the workers be honest and sell you what you ask for. So here we are in February 2020 and still no marker. I talked to a lady that works there and asked her to keep the urn and vault and let me be cremated. She said no but I could sell it and probably make money on it. Give me a break!! I paid $1990.00 for the urn,vault, military granite base. I don't want this to happen to anyone else, so be careful.
Horrible! This place looks like a dump in the midst of a ghetto!! I would have never buried my mother there if I'd had any idea it would become this neglected and run down! It is awful! Calling is a waste of time. I've reported to Nashville several times already. I suppose I'll try again since the grass is overgrown nothing but weeds. Many tombstones are broken, as is my mother's vase. I went there looking for a friend's grave and spoke to someone back in the summer. She has called almost every week since to SELL me a plot! I told her I have 4 there I need to sell 3 of those!!! EMBARASSING! I'd be willing to bet the owners wouldn't want their moms buried there! I had to push 1 star to post ...if there was a negative star, that would be more accurate!
My dad is buried here and I had no issues Ms Ponders was great. My mother and I have burial policies her . I am very upset that they have not built the funeral home back after the fire. If I had wanted my funeral out east I would have bought plots out ther . I sent email to the owners. Never received a response
I'm warning you while you're up ahead to not do business with this company or you will be an unsatisfied customer as I am. I paid off a headstone 02/2017 and today I have not seen a headstone or neither can anybody Boaz/Brenda offer me information regarding this headstone. I have called a MILLION times, most times I leave a msg with the receptionist & NEVER get a returned phone call. I have also sent an email and faxed a letter of complaint which both Boaz/Brenda called and stated they were working on it and was going to contact me back ASAP that was 08/01/2017 and again I have not heard ANYTHING! I informed them when I talked to them, I will be making a trip to Memphis and SOMETHING is going to be handled since they can't handle things with me living out of town. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL and LACK COMMUNICATION SKILLS!
