My wife and I went to the Saints Louis Art Museum on a Saturday a little before noon. It wasn't very crowded at all. It definitely feels more like an art museum than an art gallery which I think I prefer. Lots of art ranging from paintings, pottery to medieval armor and mummies. I had read it would take about 2 1/2 hours to see everything, well after 5 hours, we still hadn't seen everything. This place has a lot to see, and if you take your time it can take up a whole day. We really enjoyed our visit here and will definitely be coming back in the future.
First-class free museum except for special exhibits with something for everyone. Classics or modern, painting or sculpture, this museum has it. We were impressed with the very good, helpful explanations for each piece. Lots of free parking and a stunning view over Forest Park. This is definitely a sampling of "everything art." - From classic paintings, famous artists, and cultural art ranging from a variety of American Indian cultures to Egyptian to the various art revolutions, and even modern art, this museum has it all. Various furniture pieces and fully furnished rooms of historical times give the viewer a sense of what a room would look like during the period of time and location portrayed. It has so much, I could see visiting and focusing on particular aspects and needing to come back multiple times to appreciate all that they have to offer.
Like so many other amazing stops in St Louis, the Art Museum is free. 3 levels of art collections from every culture and genre. Everything you can imagine. Also has a gift shop and a small cafe. One really unique thing they have is they've taken the inside of some historic American homes and relocated them here inside the museum. Love visiting here. Outside there is the view on Art Hill, overlooking the water and fountains. Its very nice and a lot of people had professional photos done outside of the museum. Parking around this area is the biggest challenge. Depending on when you go there might be an open spot in the free lot. Otherwise, there is the museum garage that costs, or you can street park, but expect to walk a few blocks. Don't try and park in illegal spaces. The park rangers are out in force.
Free admission! A wide range of collections! Super nice organized in different categories and themes. Loved the landscape design outside the museum: open view of the pond on a hill in the big park!! What a great treasure and gift that the city of St. Louis sends to the visitors. It greatly changed my preconception of St. Louis as a city in the Midwest. Such a great city with so many to offer!
We came on a very cold day so I did not get to explore all of the beautiful park but just this short visit has me excited to come back soon. The textiles exhibit was interesting and well worth checking out especially on Fridays since ticketed sections are free. It looks like they're expanding the arms and armor exhibit which is pretty exciting. The cafe food was really good too! Looking forward to my next trip.
I think it is so cool that this is free. You could definitely spend an entire day here. It houses so many different styles of art and it is huge...three floors full of art theres an outdoor sculpture area. I went on a Saturday and didn't have to wait. Everyone that greeted me and at the desk was very helpful. When you enter you are technically on the second floor. Go check it out!
Easy to spend a whole day here. Lots of famous paintings and art. Many unique collections. We had a great time! We didn't even see the paid exhibit but the rest of the museum is free. Cafe was OK. Only gripe was the many guests loudly talking and kids running around. You're supposed to be QUIET at an art museum.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
This is one of St. Louis’ gems and I love that it is free and easily accessible. Whether you’re looking for the perfect date night spot or it’s a rainy day and you need something free and indoors to do - this place is it! The museum is clean and well maintained and the staff are friendly and very informative about the exhibits. Many of the newer exhibits are interactive and accessible to those with visual impairments - creating a safe place for everyone to come and enjoy art. Right outside is the famous Art Hill where you can enjoy the view of Forest Park and have yourself a picnic and enjoy this little slice of St. Louis heaven. It‘a also within walking distance of the St. Louis Zoo - another free and famous St. Louis attraction.
This is an excellent art museum. The museum has artwork, sculptures and artifacts from countless generations around the world. Numerous art areas are represented, as well as unique displays of actual Egyptian mummies and weapons over 500 years old. This is a great way to spend the day and the museum is free.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
Absolutely wonderful experience with this museum. I was particularly excited to see Van Gogh and Monet in person but was also really happy with the variety of art types. Paintings, pottery, sculptures and countless artifacts. It was a very nice museum to walk through. You can definitely spend 2-3 hours here easy. Parking wasn’t bad, was a close walk to the entry. Wasn’t crowded. Was absolutely breathtaking outdoors in November. Scenery surrounding the building was wonderful. I would definitely recommend it!
