The museum is well maintained with interesting exhibits. Definitely worth a tour if you want to learn more history of Texas.
It wasn't as exciting as the hype tried to make it out to be, but that being said it is well taken care of, well laid out and tons of old building to see. We also went to their Christmas at Fort Concho and got to see Santa Clause and Nativities put on by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It was nice to see that fort Concho remembered to put Christ in Christmas.
Don’t miss visiting the mules!! Absolutely amazing. Fort Concho is a historical treasure in the heart of San Angelo. Totally worth a visit. The staff is so knowledgeable and friendly. Be sure and visit the mule barns. Yep actual mules… They are adorable. It’s at the very back of the fort- and worth the walk! It was unseasonably cold and windy when we were there. Brrrr! And out there there’s nothing to stop the wind. It’s interesting to have visited so many other frontier forts… They all have a lot in common. The restoration and care at Fort Concho is remarkable.
No parking and not much to see. Very disappointed as I was interested in learning about the history of the fortVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entry$1–5
As in many years passed, our trip to Christmas at Old Fort Concho is much anticipated each December. Wonderful historic exhibits, men and women dressed in costume roaming the grounds, cavalry soldiers trotting the grounds on their horses and greeting folks. The booming of cannon fire. Fair food served up by a variety of food trucks. Will someone please explain what happened to all this? Barely a hand full of reenactors, no horses or cavalry! It appears that all they wanted to do this year was pack every available barracks building with grossly overpriced goods. 3 food vendors who felt 14$ for an order of burned string they called curly fries!!! The annual 4h horse rides for kids had 3 horses. The petting zoo was a joke. And where were the tents that for years lined the entire barracks side filled with wonderful homemade wooden items, blankets and goods. As always we had a great time just walking the grounds but the sense of being in an historic place was not there. Whoever put together this years festival should have been locked in "stocks" and let us throw eggs at them. Because they sure laid an egg of their own.
I had fun today. Went to see the Christmas at Fort Concho, it was great to see a part of American History in a live setting. The re- enactors did a wonderful job of presenting their character and time setting. They were very knowledgeable and polite answering our inquiries. Etc. Christmas at Fort Concho is something to look forward to each year.
You really must visit Fort Concho! It is a place where you can walk back in time and learn about 19th century Texas. It is open year round but if you visit the first weekend in December you will be in for a treat. Christmas at Old Fort Concho is a fantastic event where you can visit Living History encampments and shop for unique presents.
Interesting historic site to visit. It takes about an hour to see everything. 9 buildings are open and you can go in and see various historic scenes from officer's living quarters to historic artillery to soldier's barracks. Inside the visitor center are some historic items such as uniforms, canteens, and weapons. Bonus-- there is a living stable with mules that you can visit!
Where do I even start? My family went there for Christmas at Old Fort Concho, and it was the most disappointing event of my life. For starters, my wife was deadnamed and harrassed by a very transphobic ticket booth worker. Then there was just... nothing to do. No reenactments, barely anything in the way of stalls to browse or tents with lovely goods. And worst of all: the two food stalls were overpriced and horribly cooked. The only saving grace is that they weren't firing those horrible canons on the hour this year. I'm autistic and sudden loud noises scare me half to death.
Fort Concho was fantastic! Extremely well maintained and taken care of. Staff was friendly and excited to help explain the fort to us. Would highly recommend stopping by this fort- well worth the time to explore.
