The Fort Sam Houston Museum preserves and exhibits the history of Fort Sam Houston and the Army in this region. This includes the development of the installation, the activities of tenant units and organizations, the service of soldiers stationed here, and major events that occurred here which affected the Army and the Nation.
Orientation and Tours For Groups:
Guided or self guided tours of the museum galleries, "Windshield" tours of the post (you provide the transportation), tours of the Quadrangle, "Welcome" orientation for newly assigned/arrived personnel.
Professional Development Training: For Military Organizations, including Staff Rides.
Research and Reference Assistance:
Reference library, military history; Military manuals, 1847 to present; Archival and photo collection; Research assistance for staff studies, term papers and writing projects.
Outreach Programs for Schools and Colleges:
Heritage tours in conjunction with the San Antonio Conservation Society.
Classroom presentations related to the Indian Wars, World War I and World War II, focusing on the role of Fort Sam Houston and San Antonio.
Traveling Exhibits and Displays:
The Museum maintains a collection of graphic exhibits which can be loaned out.
Publications and Information Services:
The Museum produces and distributes a variety of publications about the history of Fort Sam Houston and related topics.
Brochures on the museums, guide to the historic sites and the Quadrangle walking tour are available.
The museum also maintains a stock of selected publications of the Texas Historical Commission, including the Independence Trail and the Texas Forts Trail.
