Frank Pepe's Pizza
"Frank Pepe Pizzeria est. 1925 is home to white clam pizza and one of the oldest and best-known pizzerias in the country. The Wooster St. legend is home to white clam pizza and one of the world’s oldest and most famous pizzerias. Known locally as Pepe’s pep-eez, it has its Original Location in the Wooster Square neighborhood of New Haven, CT. Today, there are 16 additional locations across CT, MA, RI, NY, MD, VA, and FL. Frank Pepe knew in 1925 that only coal burns hot and dry and doesn’t give off steam like a wood fire. He knew that only a coal fire could give his “tomato pies” their famous crisp, charred, chewy crust."

We used to eat here regularly many years ago but have moved away. When we last visited 7 years ago we thought the pizza taste/quality had declined, but on this recent visit, the pizza was much better. Service isn’t amazing but is fine. Ordered salad, 2 cheese and 1 pepperoni pizza, and tiramisu.Food: 4/5
This is a vintage pizzeria if I could use that term for it! The first time I try it was in the original one in New Heaven and it was good! However I was pregnant. 18 years latter I am at the Yonkers location and I did enjoyed it again! The pizza dough is nice and crispy, the ingredients you can taste them individually even though they are together and the sauce or mozzarella cheese doesn’t over power over the taste. Definitely a place to go when you are near any of their locations. The sizes are generous and quite big. I was there with my nephew and hubby we ordered a large pizza and a medium. What was left was almost the size of a small pizza and my husband alone can eat a large pizza Canadian size by himself. The Italian sausage was really good it has that particular flavour that nowadays you won’t find it.
While in Yonkers, my family asked to meet here. I have never been to Frank Pepe so I quickly agreed. This one is located on Central Avenue near Snake Hill. I haven’t been to Yonkers in so long I don’t remember the actual street name. There’s a parking lot and meter parking in front. Handicap spots in front of the restaurant. Very clean with a friendly staff. There is only pizza, salad and dessert. No coffee or appetizers which I was a little surprised by. The pizza was really good, especially after letting it settle for a few minutes. We got three kinds: margherita, shrimp, and sausage and pepperoni. The margherita was probably my favorite. Very light and lots of basil. All were really good. Thin and crispy because of the coal fire. The shrimp is supposed to be on a white pizza, but they accommodate for a red sauce. Not my choice, but I was outvoted at the table. I would definitely return based on my first experience.
I've been to Pepes multiple times and pizza is always good. I'm a purist and do not like toppings, however, I was convinced to try the roasted chicken... outstanding. Someone in our party had an egg allergy.. they really upped the bar on how they separated everything from the pizza to the spatula to ensure they were not exposed to anything else. They're getting only 4 stars because it was not very crowded, but while service at the table was excellent, it took awhile to get our orders.
This spot used to me my go to Pizza restaurant when I wanted to take my mother and daughter out for a bite… everything has always been on point.. great Pizza worth my 15 min drive, great service.. This review is based on my last visit to Pepe’s… I ordered 3 small pies, when the first one arrived , we noticed how burnt the crust was.. I thought to myself, based on my past experience at this place… One out of 3 is not bad.. but then the other two showed up and were just as bad… I hate making a fuzz, specially when people are handling my food.. but I explained the situation to the waiter and told him I was returning one of the pies, and would eat the other two… when he took it back I could hear him explaining the situation to whomever was in charge.. this was follow by seemed to be jokes and laughter by the crew.. no manager came to our table to check up on what was wrong, and the waiter took so long to come and give us the check that I had to walk up to the front register to pay for my bill…. I know it doesn’t sound like it, but this review was written in hopes that the owners mage to fix whatever s*it show was going on on this Monday afternoon around 1pm… This is a legit, respected pizza place with good pizza.. but this day I got the crappiest service , and lowest quality pizza I have experienced in general. I’ll rather take my chances somewhere else from now on.
Went to Frank Pepe's today & I must say the silverware was so clean. I was stunned & I go to expensive restaurants that don't measure up to them. The plates were warm and the service was incredible. It was a delight. I wish they could give lessons to high end restaurants they can learn from them. I'd like to praise management & the owners for staff training. The cleanliness which is essential, the great service & food, of course which makes a great restaurant. Thank you.
The pizza here is sooo good! Very cozy restaurant with delicious pizza. We tried a classic margherita and a meatball ricotta. They were both amazing and honestly just as good cold the next morning. I will definitely stop by next time I'm in the area. 09/02/2023 updated review: we ordered the same pizzas, but one came out with very burnt crust and they didn't even apologize or offer to make a new one which was disappointing. Still tasted good, we just avoided that area.
A friend recommended this place and I wasn't disappointed. I came as a group of three and we each got a small size pizza, which is honestly big enough for maybe 2 people. The special was really good and so was the margarita. I recommend anything sauce focus since is really good and the hidden gem!Food: 5/5
The worst pizza ever! Pizzas were both cold and burnt, they were like leftovers. This place should not exist, if you advertise for being in the community since 1925, then behave like one!!!Food: 1/5
Very good pizza ! They have a wide variety of pizza and there all very delicious. The waiters have treated us with nothing but kindness!Recommended dishesDietary restrictions accommodatedNot sure
