The Franklin School of Science and Arts was founded by Israel Zamost, a Russian immigrant, in the early 20th century. His son, Karlton Zamost, expanded the curriculum in the 1960s and served as the school's president, until CBS (Columbia Broadcasting System) purchased the school. In 1977, CBS closed the school, which was housed in a magnificent structure, formerly an 18th century church, in Center City, Philadelphia.
