During my working life, I traveled throughout a five state area, and had regular stops in all the major cities: Nashville, Memphis, Lexington, Louisville, Asheville, Richmond, Raleigh, Charlotte, Norfolk, Atlanta, Birmingham, etc. To keep out of trouble at night, I always sought out the local Public Library for my entertainment. Without fail, I always found that the local libraries in those cities didn't hold a candle to the branch system in Knox County. In some of those, the "main" library was no larger than one of Knox County's branches. We're extremely lucky to have the library and I encourage everyone to support it however possible.
It is never quiet in this library. I come here several times per week to try to do homework, but I have no chance if I forget to bring earplugs. Patrons play videos on the computers, talk on the phone, and have full volume conversations. The staff are even worse, constantly walking around while talking at full volume, failing to set a good example or enforce the universal rule of silence in libraries.
This is my favourite library branch in the entirety of Knox County. Nay, East Tennessee. The catalogue of material is extremely thorough: most any movie you can think of, many popular albums, soundtracks, and classical music recordings, magazines, local newspapers, novels, biographies, et cetera. It's a astounding for a city of fewer than 200,000 people. Then, there's the environment. Tables for study are situated on the first floor, overlooking the traffic on West Church Street. Tall ceilings with circular skylights. Free public access WiFi, computers, scanners, printers, and copiers. A fun haven for children, complete with age-appropriate books. The architecture is very 70s, but I quite like it.
You are only allowed certain minutes during day. Staff not that avvomadating childrens secyion ok however would expect quite a bit more from the main library for a city the size of knoxville
Love the library and the one downtown has a wide variety of services And materials for checking out. Plus a small used book store within.
