What an adorable museum! The Railroad Historical Museum was a must-see in Springfield for any railroad enthusiasts or train aficionados. I love trains--and since my husband loves me, he tagged along. Since it is only open from 2-4 p.m. on Saturdays it relies on donations and volunteers, it is something you'll likely need to plan in advance. Parking is a bit weird to find, but head for the giant locomotive you can see by the street. Part of the museum allows you to walk through real train cars, set up with photos, news articles, models, dioramas, and real passenger train supplies. You can also ring the train bell and toot a horn fun for kids and big kids alike!. There is also an exact replica of a little station you can walk through with more things to see. All volunteers were super nice and answered all the nerdiest questions I had with the utmost of patience. I felt no pressure to buy things or donate in fact, I think it would benefit them to make the donation box a bit bigger and more noticeable; they truly deserve it. Lovely people, lovely place. If I lived in the area I would consider volunteering myself. Highly recommended!
My 3 yr old son is crazy about trains, when we arrived he was so shocked and in awe he didn't know what to do or say, but that didn't take long about 10 min later he is giving tours to the volunteers . lolVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree

We had my sons 7th birthday party here today, it was great!!! The kids LOVED looking @ all the stuff they have out, going up & down the stairs in the 2nd to last car, playing w all the knobs, etc in the locomotive, blowing the whistle, & more! Thank you so much for a great experience & a birthday party to remember!!! The fact that it's air conditioned made it all that much better in todays heat! Thanks again!
My Great Great Nephew loved it. He did not want to leave. Lots of history.
Small but nice museum. Interesting displays. Working on some of the model railroad displays.
My husband and I visited here today and I am very glad that we did. It is so interesting and many helpful volunteers answer questions. The history is intriguing. It was great how they showed how the train was moved to this site. I want to bring our grandchildren.Wait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
What a great little place! There's a cute little park nearby, so you can pack up the kiddos, have a picnic lunch, and then swing by the museum free of charge. It's a small area when you think of train museums, but you're free to climb and clamber about, ring the bell, toot the horn, sit in the engineers seats, explore the 2nd story of the commuter car I never knew such a thing existed, etc etc etc. I thought it was fascinating ... such a shame the original depot was destroyed
Helpful and friendly volunteers! We had really good time up there. It's worth to check it out.
