Cold. I use this adjective to describe my experience there on two fronts. First, the a/c was on full blast. Not a bad thing in the summer, but it was more chilly enough to make it unwelcoming. Second, in 45 minutes in the children's area not a soul said hello to my daughter nor to me. I mean you have the Nassau Library Tour going on you would think you'd be friendly to all patrons. Anyway, the kid's section is to the right of the main entrance which is directly across from the main library. Not a fan of the set up because toddlers like to roam and be noisy in their exuberance, so I have to shush Luna more often than I would like. Within, the children's library there was plenty of room to explore, but not many toys nor puzzles. The displays were also pretty bland. In my opinion, today was not a good day for my toddler to visit the Garden City Library.
Great library if you want to study or get work done. They have sofas and study tables with outlets similar to a college library. The only downside is the 2 hour parking which might not be enough for people wanting to study here.
Excellent, extremely helpful. Made me get a library card again. As an adult.
Great place to work, read and study. A vast selection of childrens, young adults, and adults media, including CDs and magazines. Lovely staff and high quality books available to purchase for usually less than $1.25
This quiet oasis is a real gem of a library. There are three levels with a little cyber cafe space downstairs level adjacent to the computer lab. There is also a large children's area as well as for an area for young teens. Study carralls were available and I found the staff to be friendly and approachable. There is also a book sale area as they receive many book donations.
I wish the library would reinstate some of the children’s programs that they cut a couple of years ago. I also think the late fines are too high for children's books and DVDs. We belong to another library Mattituck- Laurel that has automatic renewal and Northport Public Library has it too. Wondering why we don’t have that in GC? The children’s room librarians are wonderful though.
Wonderful local library that carries an large selection of books and all types of media to rent. They have a great selection of books to purchase
If I could give this place zero stars, I would. I traveled from Freeport to garden city because the online portal listed that this library offered video game rentals to non-patrons. As soon as I approached the front desk to check the video game out, the librarian made the following remark: “video game rentals are only offered to residents of garden city”.. I was quite bothered by the fact that she assumed I wasn’t a resident without me ever implying I wasn’t from the town. The interaction just felt very uncomfortable and I hope that there is some sort of repercussion for this librarians behavior.
I am completely appalled by the treatment that I received here from a staff member. A blond woman at the front desk gave me and my mother an extremely demeaning and self righteous attitude when we asked how to acquire a library card.
most beautiful and peaceful library i have seen. such great people helping in every department
