My Mom's service was May 17th. From beginning to end we were treated with compassion and kindness from all the staff that we encountered. I have to give a very special thanks to Mr Ike. He went above and beyond, putting things in motion in regards to the engraving and installation of my Mom's crypt cover. He text me when it was engraved and sent me a picture when it was completed. Can't wait for her picture to be added, so I can see her beautiful face when I visit.
My family member was buried here. When we arrived after the funeral and waited for 45 minutes. We called and no one answered. When someone finally arrived there were several problems: the vault was not placed into the ground, it was in the wrong spot, and was too close to other graves. The staff was completely unprofessional and had no compassion. I’m afraid the rumours about overcrowding are true because the plots were so close to others and the bulldozers were driving over headstones. Totally careless. I would not recommend this place to my worst enemy.
The cemetery incorrectly assigned a burial plot for our family member 3 times prior to the burial. On the day of the funeral our procession waited over 40 minutes at the cemetery as there was no one to receive us and no one in the office. We were told all personnel were at other burials. Once taken to the burial area, we arrived to a gravel lot where the cement vault was sitting on the ground. There was no cemetery personnel directing the proceedings and our family just stood in the lot. When asked why the vault was not in the ground we were told by cemetery staff that they have an "above ground burial". There were ground workers standing around and one on a backhoe. The Grand lawn staff asked if we wanted to witness the services in the parking lot! The ground workers moved our daughters coffin like trash and rudely dropped it in the vault lying on the gravel lot. While family and friends stood in disbelief they abruptly picked up the vault with the backhoe and dangled it over our waiting loved ones to the burial plot. When our family began to complain to staff onsite the staff said this is the way they bury. This was the most horrific experience as we buried our 25 year old daughter. The Grand Lawn Cemetery is unprofessional and does not adhere to the ethics and morals that should be used when burying loved ones. The cemetery was not prepared, was late, did not communicate and thus added additional grief and harm to a family at the most difficult time.
I went to this cemetery to find my uncle’s grave. And the ladies in the office were fantastic sorry not good with names and the gentleman that helped me find the grave was awesome, hats off to these people they are so friendly and professional and kind they deserve a raise, just saying Thank you all. Grand Lawn cemetery waz choosen in 1908 on a parcel of farmland 12milez outside of Detroit in redford twp. where river rouge runz thru da area but almoz 20yrz later Detroit annexed Grand lawn cemetery. @ da foundin of grand lawn in 1908 Clarence M. burton a local Detroit historian, author, collector, library founder n president of GLC assoc. said "selectin diz home 4 R dead so far from da heart of Detroit we figured on da growth of Detroit n do not believe dat diz cemetery will ever b disturbed by da growth of da metropoliz of da state." by da time burton died n waz buried here in 1932 hiz wordz would b proven wrong n Detroit would gobble up da whole area includin diz cemetery.
This is their promise......right off of their website: Grand Lawn Cemetery has been designated by the state as a Perpetual Care Cemetery, meaning that the resting spaces for you and your loved ones will be maintained from now until the end of time. Went to find a family member today. Found the section. There are grave markers buried in the ground covered with 3 to 4 inches of dirt and so covered with overgrown grass you cannot even see the name. We never did find our family member because half of the markers are buried so deep you can't even read the names. You literally had to get on your hands and knees and dig with a stick or your hands to remove the dirt.
Worst service ever maybe half star need to be added. That’s what I would give them. Knew experience I met with Mr. Matthew P. and for the first time I didn’t leave this place anger and ready. He went above and beyond to solve it and he did. This is the person you need to talk to take care of things at this cemetery yes go Corporate. Still have nothing good to say about the people working at this cemetery they are dead feeling people who just getting a check and could care less about your loved ones. Again called corporate and got Mr. Matthew P. and it was a good decision that’s who you want to solve anything here no one else is capable to do so it has been shown. I hope this help another family.
My family were having a hard time with another cemetery and they seemed to be just about the money. I came over to Grand Lawn Cemetery and they were very compassionate and helpful in providing a proper burial for my grandma. The grounds are clean and we'll kept and again they were extremely supportive during a very hard time for my family. I would recommend Grand Lawn Cemetery to anyone looking to have their loved one receive a proper burial
Very unprofessional and uncaring staff. My grandmother grave marker was paid for November 2017. The paperwork wasn’t processed. After my family found out the documents weren’t processed. We submitted the paperwork again back in September 2018 and that paper wasn’t submitted. In February I did a follow-up and we had to start the process over again. This has been the most traumatic experience for my family. we have to keep following up with something that was done. I called three weeks ago and I’m still waiting for someone to call us with an update. We are still waiting on that call. My grandmother birthday is this month and can't even visit her grave. We are sadden and upset that we have to keep going through this. Williams Family
Still trying to get my father’s date of death July 10, 2018 engraved on memorial bench that was purchased. I’ve gotten the runaround from staff and corporate. Very frustrating. The post below is equally frustrating. I still want to know why I kept getting the run-around since July. I inquired each month since then -- either by phone or in person. I knew weather was a factor -- which is why I kept persisting during the warmer months. The reply is condescending and insincere. Why wasn't the job done in a timely manner? No one seems to answer that question. There is something amiss with quality control standards and follow through.
