We received a trial Thousand Trails membership with the purchase of our camper. This particular CG is very large but very packed. You are literally on top of your neighbor. Check in was very easy and staff are very nice. The one open pool was 1/2 mile away from our site. It was small but nice and clean. The laundry was in that clubhouse building and the machines kept in nice condition. Restrooms had showers there which were also nice and clean. You cannot say that about the other bathhouses. They were quite dirty, disgusting and lacking paper towels half the time and the trash was never emptied. There are a lot of full timers but all were nice and helpful and certainly not wild and crazy like you can find in some parks. We did buy the Internet package because cell service was nil. Rooms: Bathhouses horrible. Never cleaned except for clubhouse Nearby activities: Have to drive everywhere but Lenoir has a couple breweries, parks, winery Safety: Felt very safe. Long term residents nice and on lookout Walkability: Hilly but nice. Too far to walk to pool. Noteworthy details: Huge property. Very tight spaces. On top of your neighbor.
We just spent a few weeks here as Thousand Trails members and enjoyed a nice and peaceful getaway from all of the hustle and bustle. If you are looking to visit, remember this place is on the side of a mountain and the campground is in a holler so don't be expecting any great cell service. We had a bar on AT&T and Verizon and calls were pretty good. The campground is nice and you can tell the staff care about the place by the improvements you see them doing around the park. We stayed in the upper portion in a nice pull through site. We didn't have any issues with Water electric or sewer. I read complaints about the water pressure in the lower part of the park but you have no issues with it at the top as I had to reduce the water pressure to keep the RV lines safe. There are a lot of full timers in the park and seasonals which is typical for a TT park, but their sites were kept up and didn't deter from the "Camping" feeling. Overall we enjoyed our stay here and will come back to the park during the summer to enjoy a lot more of the area and local sights.
The RV park that was great at same point in the past. You can still see the remaining and left to decay tennis courts, mini golf, splash park for kids and more. Some spots are leveled, and most of them have wooden decks that in my situation wood was completely destroyed and you needed to be very careful not to get hurt. There is no free WiFi in the park or cell service. No cable TV. There are options to buy Internet, but from my experience the speed wasn't great. Roads are narrow and uneven. The place has some hiking trails and a small pool. The people working here are nice and helpful. I hope this place can get a makeover and be restored, it has a good potential.
We stayed here for two weeks. My site was easy to get into but that's not the case for many of the sites. Some can be very challenging. All the complaints about the campground falling into disrepair are still valid. They need to invest some money into this park to bring it back to its former glory. I had 50amp full hookups. Upon arrival it was disclosed that one part of the park had low water pressure before choosing a site. The ladies in the office were very helpful and pleasant to deal with. Verizon signal is terrible in the park. We did pay for the internet service and it worked great and allowed for wifi calling. The location is right in the middle of a lot to do. Lots of hikes, waterfalls, and a national park. There are a lot of full time residents in the park. Laundry worked perfectly with plenty of machines. I can't complain the way some others have on here.
The views here are amazing and if you love to hike the trails are a must-do! However, like many thousand trails it is ran down. Nothing to do and all activities have been discontinued. Everything is broken and only one bathroom is even usable. The staff is nice but you can tell they have given up on the park as well. They blame everything on no funding which is probably somewhat true. There is nothing to do here and the full-time residents here have taken over the park and run over the staff. The residence does not follow the one-way-only signs and the speed limit or stop signs. My husband while walking our dog was almost hit several times. I jog in the mornings and had to jump into a ditch to save myself from almost being hit. Then when we went to leave a resident in a truck almost side-swiped us because he tried to "race" us to the exit by going the wrong way down the oneway road and almost hit us because he was going too fast to slow down. Then got out of his truck to cuss us out right in front of the office. staff said they would have a "firm" talk with him later and begged us not to call the police. Would not stay again even though it's free.
We were there for 7 days. The lower campground has concrete slabs where the one we stayed at was gravel an sand. It was a nice site still. If you have Verizon, you will only have a half a bar signal. The roads need improvement, especially the gravel part. The one pool was not in service. But the main one was nice. They need more chairs around it. With what they charge for membership. The bathhouses could be better maintained an better housekeeping. Towel hooks broken off of the wall an things.
This was our first and last visit to this park. It was ran down, dated, and over grown. Grass had not been cut, sites were very small, and the wood decks were rotten and falling apart. Vast majority of the park is year round campers and it is very cluttered. More like a trailer park than a campground. Office staff were very polite and did what they could. Owners need to take note and clean this place up. It has great potential with the location but right now i was not comfortable staying there with my family. After trying 2 different sites, we left and went elsewhere without staying the night.
Green Mountain was very quaint. It was in a beautiful mountainous setting with easy access to stores, restaurants, and the Blue Ridge Parkway. We didn't use any of the campground facilities, so we can not speak to that. The road through the campground was hilly and windy. A few bridges within the campground could use some maintenance, but we did not have any problem. We are in a Class A 38 ft. pulling a 16 ft. car hauler.
I gave this campground two stars to be kind. We had reservations for this campground several months in advance. Arrived there, was directed to a campsite that was impossible for our 44 ft toy hauler to fit into. The site was supposed to be a pull through, it was narrow, maybe 6 or 7 foot wide, on one side at entry was the hookups, on the other side was a worn out deck. It couldn't have been more than 35 ft long. The site was extremely unlevel. Humped in the middle. We decided to go back to the office to what else they had. Driving through the campground is a obstacle course. There are small creeks with narrow bridges, switch back roads. It is not big rig friendly. We had to drive all the way through the campground because there was no place to turn around. I tried calling the office several times, but there is no cell service. By the time we got back to the office, my husband and I were so upset, we just left. The campground is crowded and there are a lot of permanents. I would never stay at this campground and would not recommend it to anyone else. I also forgot to mention, we took the wrong road getting into the road to the campground because there is no sign to direct you to the campground. So we were forced to turn our camper around on a narrow country road by backing into someone's driveway. Try that with a 44 ft camper and long bed truck. We stayed at a Walmart that night as it was to late to get another site anywhere. Worst experience of my life.
I really enjoyed Annette and the other very friendly and helpful staff; assigned me a lovely spot by the creek, with wooden platform, bench seating, picnic table. The other campers were friendly, and everyone was quiet. Lots of bird songs, very quiet location a long ways from busy roads, and it had sweet smelling air. And, they answer their phones right away. Kudos for that! As stated in other reviews, the two older bathrooms had an offensive smell even though I was there on the opening day of the season. It seemed to simply be what the buildings were constructed from. That day, it wasn't sewer, and the bathroom had just been clean. Nothing the staff on-site could do anything about it. They just need to be replaced. Most all RVs were self-contained and hooked up to sewer, so it wouldn't matter to most campers. Playground: Nice playground.
