Explorers participate in weekly meetings for training in topics such as traffic stops, traffic crash investigations, DUI investigations, crime scene investigations, defensive tactics, and crisis intervention. Explorers may also participate in shooting practice and competition on a regular basis using Glock 17 semi-automatic handguns. Explorers serve at local events, providing crowd control and other services. Explorers provide community service in a wide array of specialties including the Police Records and Communications Divisions. After a certain level of training and experience is attained, Explorers will be permitted to ride-along with experienced patrol officers on a regular basis.
