Awesome shop with tons of great vintage gear. Brett's service is fantastic, quick, and well priced. I started by taking some speakers in for repair. He was honest and told me it was a cosmetic issue and probably not worth the cost. I then brought in a 40+ year old Reel to Reel deck that's never been serviced and sat in a closet for 20+ years. Within a few days he had it up and running like new. Since then I've picked up an amp, pre-amp, turntable, and speakers and basically replaced everything I had with stuff from this shop. All of the gear has been serviced, the amp has new caps, the table has a new cartridge, the speakers are in excellent shape, ETC. He's really knowledgeable about the gear and the electronics inside the gear. If you're interested, take the time to have a conversation about the components in your system and you'll definitely learn a lot. If you end up buying components from him he'll walk you through what he has in the shop and if something isn't right or isn't worth it, he won't push it. There are a couple of conflicting reviews here but as you can see from my review, I've had nothing but a positive experience with Brett at this shop. Unlike some other businesses, I didn't just have a good experience with good service because I spent money here, It was the positive experience up front that made me stick around and become a customer. I'm officially done with buying gear online. I can get every bit as good of a deal with Brett and I don't have to worry about DOA gear or something blowing up a week after I get it.
Brett did a great job on my 44 year old Marantz. It sounds brand new and brings back great memories. He fixed it in two days and I thought his price was very reasonable. I was also able to purchase a fantastic pair of genesis speakers and it’s totally 1977 in my basement minus the polyester.
Brett received my vintage Sansui C-2301 power amplifier in late 2017 and agreed to troubleshoot the issue of one channel being out. After approximately 6 months of not hearing from him I contacted him by email and received no response. Called and he stated he had looked at it but hadn't put much time into it but would. Several months later and the same scenario. Since I live 3+ hours away I had a friend from the Northern VA area check on it and Brett once again stated he hadn't really had time to look at it. Year two rolls around and Brett continued to do nothing. Finally, I informed him that I would have my friend pick up the amp and he states that he "recycled" the amp and no longer has it. Keep in mind that this is a $3-5K amp and highly coveted by audiophiles so I can't help but assume he is lying and either sold it or stole it. Presently we are exploring legal action against Brett and his business and in the meantime I would strongly discourage anyone from doing business with such an unscrupulous individual.
Brett did a great job restoring my Realistic STA-76 receiver. He takes his time and does the job right. He is also very knowledgable about the era equipment, and is great to talk to about projects and bounce ideas off of. Glad to see a local shop like this bringing equipment back to life!
I had a brand new KEF R3 speaker that had one of the drivers smashed by a door knob. Brett was great on the phone - I ordered the part from KEF, brought it to Brett and he had it installed in less than 24 hours. Brett's prices are reasonable for the level of expertise he provides and he is a cool guy to talk to. Highly recommended.
Great service from Brett on my vintage 2 channel components. Work is top notch, well priced and done on time! He also has a neat selection of gear on hand - tubed gear, SS, receivers, turntables, speakers, etc. I've bought a couple of McIntosh pieces from him that perform flawlessly.
Brought Brett my SX-780 and my dad's Dual 1228. The Dual was in need of some repairs and refurbishment which he did neatly and it runs beautifully again. The SX-780 was more a puzzle at least to me but not to Brett!. I'd given it a go on a few of the more common repairs to fix it reflow some of the usual suspect solder joints and attempted a replacement of one of the power packs and even replaced the relay in a final act of desperation. No luck so took it to Brett. Let him know he'd be getting something that someone before me had worked on and then that I'd worked on too - so possibly a just a big ol mess. He took it in stride and went to work on it. Called me up and let me know an estimate for what he'd identified and walked me through a couple repair options and we landed on a good compromise instead of just pushing the most expensive option. Much appreciated! Took a little longer because there were some additional complications but he stuck to it till the job was done and it was back to life. I appreciate the expertise, the willingness to stay on it till it was done right! On picking it up I also asked him for some advice about good speakers to match up with the new-again SX-780 and got good, unvarnished guidance on what to consider and what to stay away from. Showed me some of what he had in the store but wasn't pushy or trying to talk me into anything - just matter-of-factly showing me good options versus ones that could damage my newly repaired equipment. Thanks! Moving soon a little further out but you can believe I'll still be driving the extra distance to come here for any of my vintage repairs in the future.
Brett....has always done a top notch job on repairing McIntosh gear for me. To say nothing of the Zenith 1956 Trans-oceanic that he raised from the dead. A pleasure to do business with. We are very lucky to have this business local.
Offers a service that is unique in the area. A little expensive but the quality is great. Although he quoted the price up front and he does not put any pressure to get the work done. His shop appears busy and no doubt because of the quality of his work. He is a craftsman and does the best job possible on your gear. If you have AV gear that is worth fixing, Brett is your go to person. I have no idea why anyone would rate him a zero or 1 star. It makes no sense!
