Description

Highland Park Soda Fountain serves up old school fun. Grab a bar stool, take a spin, and dive into a cool treat.

Highland Park Soda Fountain, near Dallas' Highland Park neighborhood, serves up stellar milk shakes and malts, crowd-pleasing grilled cheese sandwiches, and a healthy dose of nostalgia.

At this 103 year old Soda Fountain, soda jerks, lunch counters, and house-made phosphates are still in vogue, and "world famous" shakes are still served in frosty glasses, with the remaining cool concoction in a metal container on the side.

Here kids can be kids, and adults happily can eat like kids. Sonny Williams, who owns the Soda Fountain with his wife, Gretchen, teaches kids how to spin on the 19 bar stools that line the counter. In fact, he encourages kids to take a twirl as they wait on their tasty treats. When the sugar hits, those seats really start swirling. The seating isn't just limited to just the counter bar stools. The Highland Park Soda Fountain can seat 64 smiling faces.

Stop by for a hearty old-fashioned breakfast or favorites like eggs, bacon, sausage, ham, eggs benedict, waffles, and more. Or linger over lunch. Favorites include the grilled cheese sandwich, half ham salad, half pimento cheese sandwich, and chicken salad sandwich. You'll also find a grilled peanut butter and jelly, and egg salad sandwich, vegetable soup, Frito chili pie, and pinto beans.

Regardless of when you visit Highland Park Soda Fountain, every meal should be washed down with a milk shake, malt, freeze, cooler, float, ice cream soda, ice cream sundae, or phosphate- a homemade soda that's extra fizzy and yummy.

There is no better way to beat the Dallas heat.

My first time to Dallas and I was told to check out this hidden gem. Very traditional and simple menu but sooooo good. The milkshakes are the some of the best I have ever had. A must checkout if you have time
Amazing food, wonderful staff, enjoyed the vintage drugstore. I live in Denison and drove to Dallas to experience eating at a real soda fountain/ drugstore. Waiting in line was worth it. Try the grilled cheese sandwich with a side of pickles before they close on September 8.
This place is a complete throwback in time. These kinds of places are all being torn down for new mixed use developments. Sad really. Make sure and experience this before they close.
I went with a girlfriend and her 1st grader granddaughter. My BLT was very tasty and the others in my party ate all theirs so it must have been good as well. I was too full for one of their ice cream specialties so I'll have to come back for that. We sat at the counter, service was friendly and attentive. Our food arrived quickly and I don't have a single bad thing to say about this establishment. I will be coming back.
It's no big deal that they're going out of business. $5.99 for a grilled cheese sandwich with American cheese and regular Wonder Loaf style white bread? And no side with it? My hot fudge sundae came to the table messy - running down the side in 3 places. I'm sure there are people who grew up with it. And feel nostalgic because Great, great Grandad met Great, great Grandma there. I get that. But it's not much of a place now.
My daughter and I decided to visit this quaint soda shop. They were moderately busy, but there were many tables available. We assumed we were suppose to seat ourselves, as there wasn't any sign to state otherwise. Some of the tables were dirty, but perhaps they had been busy seeing that it was late on a Friday afternoon. A waitress promptly came to our table. Our order was brought to us in perfect timing, and my club sandwich and chocolate shake were delicious. We took our ticket up to the register by the front door, and had to wait a few minutes for someone to come from behind the bar to check us out. Overall, it was a good experience, and I would go back.
If I could give it zero stars I would. Family went there over the weekend. They opened 30 minutes late. We were the first people in line and sat at a table. We waited over 30 minutes to be served. Asked for water twice and we were never given any water. We all ordered the same thing. Three of the four people in our party received their meals, one did not. Fourth meal was finally served 15 minutes after the first three again-we all ordered the same thing. Had to ask numerous times for coffee and cream. Waitress slammed drinks and plates on our table, the food smelled like used cat litter and tasted awful. I grew up going to this place and remembered it with fondness and those memories were totally spoiled by this horrible experience. This is why this place is going under. If the owners choose to reopen, they need new staff, cooks and an attitude that reflects the true heart of the establishment.
They were closed on Monday Labor Day 2017 by 20 minutes, they let me in, made me a delicious Chocolate Egg Cream and Wouldn't take my money. I live in Plano, Texas and will drive there every weekend for an Egg Cream. NICE Folks......I'm a Brooklyn Boy, I know my Egg Creams.
The food was just ok. The quality was very low and cheap. They used the cheapest ingredients they could get, but charged me for the best ingredients. The sandwich maker has old food or grease baked on the edges. Though the servers seemed very nice they used the same gloves to scratch their faces as they did to make the food. After my food came and I ate it I saw one of the servers scratch their face and then make someone else's food. When they bring the food to you they are touching the top of the plates while carrying it over. I saw fingerprints shine in the light of the store on top of the plates. This means the plate is dirty when they sit it on your table. They do make soda and the like from scratch with syrup, but what they are using is corn syrup in everything. Not directly, but it comes in everything they sale. I ate some soup and it was the same soup I could purchase for $0.78 a can at the grocery store; they charged me almost $4.00 for it. All these people that wrote reviews didn't ask about the ingredients they just consumed the end product, but if you investigate the quality of product you find it is very low. I like the idea of the, "Fountain", but in this case the quality of product and/or service was low to mediocre. It isn't worth the money.
Very crowded, great atmophere for kids but very pricy for what it is. Mostly sandwiches on the menu made with sliced white bread and heated with a grill. Milkshakes will serve 2 adults. The service is also not the best. Parking is impossible unless you are lucky.
