Holocaust Memorial Museum San Antonio

About

Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio is dedicated to educating our community about the dangers of hatred, prejudice & apathy.

Description

Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio is a special program of the Jewish Federation of San Antonio.

Mission

A curriculum built on tolerance and remembrance traces the recurrent themes of persecution and discrimination from the Nazi extermination of European Jews during World War II to bullying in today's classrooms and neighborhoods. Local Holocaust survivors are available to speak to groups who book a tour online at www.HMMSA.org

Visitors to the museum will learn about the Holocaust through three exhibits. The main exhibit relates the 12-year history of the Nazi era. Beginning with the rise of Nazism, visitors trace the incremental steps that led to genocide from the early years of persecution to extermination in the killing fields and death camps.

In an outside corridor is a special display titled, “In America 1933-45: Response to the Holocaust”, which traces American reaction and involvement in events unfolding in Europe.

A smaller exhibit is dedicated to the Holocaust survivors who settled in San Antonio after liberation and to American soldiers who liberated the concentration camps. In addition, the Holocaust Memorial Museum includes a contemplative area located on an exterior terrace that memorializes those who perished during the Holocaust.

Organized tours for school groups or organizations can be arranged by appointment.

"The Holocaust Memorial Museum of San Antonio teaches the dangers of hatred, prejudice, and apathy, and promotes good citizenship, democratic values, and respect for human dignity."

Great museum! The Holocaust part of the History lesson during our timeline like nearly centuries!
The docent led tour is recommended; it was professionally delivered. Warm welcome upon entry. I bought a significant amount of items in the gift shop so it took a fair bit of time to get me checked out but all in all, I'd say make your way down there immediately.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYesPrice for adult entryFree
Small museum packed with a lot of information. the exhibits are read at your own pace. Took teens here to get a better understanding for their school projects but became uninterested quickly. It’s a donation based entry fee.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
This museum is at the Jewish Community Center. I love learning new things and a museum big or small will teach you a lot. Very solemn, sad but real. There are videos which gives a great deal of information. If you are in the area I would suggest a visit, it's small but very informative.

Our first visit to Holocaust Memorial Museum. We spent time in reverence, prayers, reading all we could that captioned the many pictures and artifacts, and speaking with staff. Our hearts were forever reminded to never forget. The museum consists of two rooms plus additional displays in hallway and balcony. Open Sun through Fri, Closed Saturday. Free. By Donations. Thank you for your support. The museum is on 2nd floor of Barshop Jewish Community Center of San Antonio. At reception desk you can ask for directions. Staircase leads to 2nd floor, or can ask to use elevator. Receptionist will buzz you in, and enter "U" to go to 2nd floor. There is parking around this large facility and active ball fields. Blessings to all.
