The adjacent Hyalite Reservoir is spectacularly scenic. Bring your favorite watercraft or floaty, because you'll want to go out onto the water to explore, taking in the fantastic scenery. A number of formal and informal hiking trails - mostly across the reservoir or a short drive to the trailhead, and a surprise glorious mountain-meadow vista. Even without those activities, this is a special place to camp. Dog-friendly. Only downside is the current construction, diverting traffic through the campground and kicking up a lot of dust. Small potatoes, but the only thing keeping the campground experience from perfection.
Super nice spots on the water, camp ground host was very nice to let us know a few reservations were no shows and there was space! Two vehicles at base $20 site cost. Quiet and with the usual USFS camping services. Road in is rough only for a mile. Two wheel drive cars are fine to get there.
While its tricky now to get summer reservations due to how big Bozeman has grown in recent years, it is an absolute wonder of a place to camp on Highlite Reservoir. Be bear aware and bear safe, but the views and lake access are unrivaled.
A really nice campground on the northeast side of the reservoir, with several sites on the water front. Most have trees suitable for hammock camping. All have fire rings and tables. Well-stocked vault toilets are nearby, and a couple of potable water pumps are available. There's a boat launch ramp in the campground. At the time of writing the cost for a night was $15.
I've been going to this place for 30 plus years and now you can't even get a place to Camp there anymore. I'm so disappointed. We try and try every year and I'm just disappointed. We are FROM BILLINGS. 9 days we camp. We are good clean quiet campers. But NO they let the out of state people in with the hugh motorhomes come in and take the spots. People that use generators that make noise. This place is getting inundated with nothing but more and more huge vehicles. It's not like it used to be. Very disappointed. I will try one more time this year to try and get a spot if I can't get one I'm done.
Nice campground next to a beautiful reservoir. So much hiking to do right from the campground. We liked the proximity to Bozeman. A nice town. Only downside is the quality of the gravel road. One of the worst we have ever traveled.
Very busy area. If you’re looking for quiet this place is not for you. Pretty views though. The hosts are weird people this year. All that being said I would not recommend hood creek.Service: 1/5
Beautiful campground. Difficult to get reservations, have to start early in the year but well worth it.
The roads are pretty rough getting into this area. I'd also suggest early because the sites can fill up quickly. Here's some shots from the winter
Amazing campground with great hosts! Wonderful view to wake up to. Thank you Creator!!!!
