Finally made it back to Horse Thief Campground after 20+ years. Still an awesome campground like I remembered. Love that it’s secluded and quiet. Very nice RV and tent sites, clean bathroom, nice playground and pool for kids. Cell service wasn’t great, but phone worked decent on wifi. Forgot to mention beautiful views too! We will definitely be back. Thanks for a great stay.
What a great campsite, beautifully landscaped and looked after. Clean showers and restrooms and even a outdoor sink with hot running water with lights when it is dark. Travelled with my wife and two kids, they loved it and my kids loved the panning for artifacts. The store was very reasonably priced and it was great for a treat for the kids. I could not recommend this campsite more, everyone I talked to were repeat customers.
Such a great campground. The staff working at the office was so friendly and nice to talk with. The kids enjoyed the playground. The bathroom was clean and they had a big wash sink outside for dishes to be washed. The location was also very scenic and a close drive to Crazy Horse and Hill City. I would stay here again.Service: 5/5
We stayed at Horse Thief Campground while on our stay to see the Crazy Horse and Rushmore monuments. The sites are a nice size, loved being in the woods. We saw many people use the heated pool and other amenities. I used the laundry which was very convenient. Mark, the camp manager was very nice and helpful. Nearby activities: Very close to both Crazy Horse and Rushmore.
Great campground with beautiful views, clean bathrooms, store with variety of groceries and supplies. Pool unfortunately was closed for the season. Great location near Custer State Park, Needles Hwy, Mount Rushmore and nice town of Hill. City with restaurants and shopping.
This campground was a hidden gem like someone else said. It’s not in the downtown area its very secluded and has beautiful views of the black hills. I would say it was centrally located near the national parks that are in the area. The bathrooms were very clean and they had dish cleaning sinks on the outside of them. There is wifi offered at the park but the south side where we were at didn’t have any cause it got knocked out due to weather conditions before we arrived. The staff was super friendly as well. We would stay here again in the future.
This is a hidden gem of a campground. It is well maintained, it is surrounded by the Black Hills, with marvelous views of surrounding mountains. We were in a RV, but there is an abundance of tent sites that are all grass, some that are not, but those are spread apart. Their cabins are small, but air conditioned. The only reason for a 4 star rating is the amount of iron in the water. That may be because it was early in the season. The owner said it safe to drink, that is if you can stand the smell and taste. It did seem worse the more campers there were. You may want to bring plenty of drinking water. Aside from the water, this is a great campground. We did not see any wildlife, but other campers said there was some.
What a beautiful location in the Black Hills and so close to many great attractions. 20 minutes to Mt Rushmore & Crazy Horse monuments and easy drive to the Badlands. Campground staff were super nice, store on sight, and facilities clean. Would highly recommend!Service: 5/5
Great place to stay for tents! Location was ideal for a few nights of visiting the area attractions. Best view of the night sky we had yet on our two week trip! Service was kind and helpful too.Rooms: 5/5
Campsite was on a hill & washed out. Difficult to unhook & impossible to hook back up. Site should not be used. Road in campground was very rough. Bathroom & showers were nice. Would not stay here again.Location: 1/5
