Amy and Drew met in 1987 at Rhodes College in Memphis, TN and have been creative and life partners ever since. Through the post college decade they lived and worked in Memphis, Atlanta and landed in New York City in 1998. As they worked on their professional careers they continued to explore artistic pursuits. Drew in creative writing, music and printmaking and Amy as a photographer, harpist and conceptual artist. Somewhere along the way amongst their travels, they developed a passion for sea glass. Amy was doing art markets on weekends in New York selling her visual art, when one day it occurred to her she should make something with the sea glass they had collected. A small table in her booth slowly began to take over and jewelry making became her primary creative outlet. Drew jumped in and they learned together silversmithing and jewelry making techniques. Their House of Z Sea Glass shop is an ongoing collaboration that combines their love of travel, beach combing and art.
When a small space on Historic St. George Street, came available, they took the opportunity to return to Florida to be closer to their families, and so the House of Z Sea Glass shop was born. Drew having grown up in Clearwater was delighted to be near a beach again and they now live in a historic St. Augustine home that Amy’s family has occupied since 1949.
They love to explore shorelines from St. Augustine to Maine, the more elusive the better. They also take a few trips every year to international destinations in hopes of finding beautiful and unique pieces of sea glass. In a partnership between themselves and the forces of nature, they take these special treasures from the sea and transform them into beautiful pieces of jewelry and art.
