If you are a lover of spice and flavor, then make sure that you stop into this gem of a place. Right when you enter this Hot Sauce Carnival of flavors you will be greeted by one of the employees letting you know that there are 2 sample spoon dispensaries to the left when you enter. Once you have a spoon it is " game on" with which sauces you want to sample. They have sauces for the mild tasting fan to the " not so faint of heart", Carolina reaper sauces. This place even sells dry rubs along with BBQ sauces. They also have an online presence as well.
After visiting Helen , GA Pepper Palace we scheduled a mini vacation to ST Augustine to visit this location yes , we love their hot sauce . We arrived at 10:10 only to see a sign on the door that said they will be opening at 12:00. We had to leave by 11 so it was somewhat of a disappointment.
As a hot sauce fan, this place is heaven. Love the samples. Nice friendly crew. Will definitely come back!
Great hot sauce store! They have so many sauces and you can sample them all too.
This is "The End" my only friend "The End" if you're a chili head like me, you can't visit st. Augustine and skip this place. Everything they sell is out for free tastings. I loaded up the crunchy tortilla chips on all the hottest stuff I could find. My mouth was watering, eyes and nose were quick to follow suit. Then I reached "The End." The hottest stuff they have. Before I go into it, let me tell you this. It definitely helps to try everything else first. The flavors and aromas as you move from mild to balls to the wall xx spicy make the journey around the bar a real experience. Now to "The End" don't worry you will still be able to taste it, even as your mouth is exhaling fumes, and blisters form on your tounge. This one, they suggest you try it on a spoon instead of a chip. Settle in and be prepared to go sit on a bench for about 30 minutes after, the ride is about to start. It starts with a distinct smoky flavor. You might even be fooled into a false sense of safety, as the heat is slow to build. You lap the sauce around your tounge and against the roof of your mouth, inhaling from your nose, because you know better than to breath such a thing into your throat. "This isn't so bad" you begin to say as euphoria sweeps you away. Pow, it hits you. Your sinuses, your eyes, all uncontrollably watering. Sweat beading on your forehead. This stuff is getting hot! You're a true chili head, you don't look longingly at those little cartons of milk they sell. You signed up for this. This is the ride, and you're on it all the way. Panic? Oh yeah there's panic! You realize you want out of this place, and fast. Frantically you search for that one sauce you really enjoyed, but you tried too many and don't remember what it was. So you decide quickly, snatching up a couple of medium and hot sauces. Grabbing a chocolate habinero, knowing its delicious and safe. You grab a bottle of ghost pepper sauce and a shaker of spices just to cover your bases... Do I get that pineapple Serrano too? Nah that's for wimps, but it's also delicious. Arguing with your indecisiveness. Then just as the panic starts to subside, you're standing at checkout, and pull up your big boy pants. "I'll need a bottle of The End too." You command. Outside, as you continue your walk around St. Augustine, and you start to feel it. It's crawling through your stomach. You can feel it move through the upper intestines. Knowing the true end is coming. You do all that you can to keep from wanting to throw up. That bench outside of pepper palace starts to sound like a might good idea. If only you listened. If only.
It's been about 5 years or so since I have been here. I usually go whenever I get to St. Augustine but the last 3 times I wasn't able to get there before closing. My new son is the only 1 in the family besides me that loves hot sauces and such. I was so excited to finally get there with my stepson/son and let him experience it as well. We had a great time trying quite a few of the different sauces and marinades. We will definitely be back again soon. They never disappoint.
We have frequented The Pepper Palace over the years and its disheartening to say that the service has declined of late. In years past it was a must that we stop in and make a purchase. Its a fun shop with unique and interesting sauces. They offer samples and we always make a purchase to add to our collection or replace our favorite sauce. Please remember its important to treat every guest that graces your door as your only customer- - - you never know when that customer can be your last. Customer service is the utmost importance to any successful business.
Found this place on our trip to St Augustine last weekend. Was super excited to try some new hot sauce. I found one that I liked "Chocolate Habanero". Got to the airport and forgot I only brought a carry on so I gifted it to a gal at the car rental return. We did come home with something though. Iron Maiden was roaring in the background while we shopped and now my husband is listening to it while he's working. If we ever get back there, we will visit again. =
Hot sauce is my vibe. I LOVE hot sauce, and I cannot walk past a hot sauce vendor without sampling at least a dozen of their hottest, and I always buy a bottle or two of the most flavorful ones they have. I’m also a big fan of pepper palace after having visited one in NOLA, so I always make sure to pop in when I see one. Often, across hot sauce vendors, I’ll have salespeople who don’t have the patience for all the tasting or who don’t really know their product, but Diego was awesome! He was so sweet and it was clear he knew his stuff. I’m honestly leaving this review because I stopped by after already having a good day, and it was the most pleasant experience to close off the evening and make it a really good day. Thanks, Diego!
Hot sauce heaven! For parking here there's a private paid lot and there is no hustle there. this store is located at a nice touristy location with a lot of bars and restaurants, lots of people walking and all. The store is super fun! You come in and they have complementary tortilla chips so you can start the lip burning process! There are so many choices for any and all tastes, we spent a long time trying all we could until we made our choices, I will tel you that I got out of there not feeling my lips. This was a fun place with friendly staff and I can assure you that you will not walk out of here with only one bottle. They have plenty of deals on the sauces. take them all! loved it.
