Huck Finn's Playland

About

Huck Finn's Playland (formerly Hoffman's Playland) will be open for the 2017 season in it's new home at at the intersection of I90 and Route 787.

Description

Since 1951, the Hoffmans operated the area's premier authentic amusement park in Latham, NY. Generations of kids and their families regularly visited the Playland creating memories of fun times that are difficult to replicate in today's world. After over 60 years, Ruth and Dave Hoffman announced that they would be retiring at the completion of the 2014 season. Over 20,000 area residents joined a group committed to save the Playland. After a year of potential interested parties came and went, the future was looking bleak. Just as the rides were set to go to auction, another long time Albany business came to the rescue. The Warehouse at Huck Finn that has been filling area homes with brand name home furnishings for 50 years, decided it was time to start filling their hearts. After months of working 24 hour days to make sure the park could be everything it has always been to the community, Huck Finn announced that it will be moving the park to their facility. Huck Finn's Playland opened for the 2015 season at the intersection of I90 and Route 787. Memories will continue at the Playland that Huck Finn calls the most authentic amusement park anywhere.

Great little place, especially for toddlers & preschoolers. We went today for a special birthday treat and it was $40 for 25 tickets and it lasted us 2 children for over 3 hours. They have some food, drinks, and snacks there as well that are extremely reasonably priced. Cool train ride going every 30 mins twice around the park so about 5 mins. Bathrooms are all flush and decently clean. Easy parking and convenient location, we will certainly be back with friends! Thanks for a great day
Terrible experience today. Almost no staffing. No fried dough, as the trailer was completely shut down. My daughter and I both got stung by the many bee's buzzing around. Tickets way overpriced and employees have no clue what they are doing. My 5 year old niece went on a ride with my 9 year old daughter. Employee just sat there until I mentioned my 5 and 9 year old needed help getting on and off the ride. Another employee sat my much smaller niece on the outside of the ride so my daughter who is much bigger pinned her up against the metal ride as it was going. She was crying as her arm was hurt and left with a big bruise, he never once stopped the ride to let her off, as she was hurt. The employee running the ferris wheel had it going around 20 times. Kids were crying to get off, and one even got off sick to her stomach, because he just kept the ride going.. for whatever reason. Many parents were even making remarks about it. Another employee wouldn't let a girl on a ride due to her height so I offered for her to ride with my daughter who was riding alone. He took a kid off a ride that had 3 kids and put her with that kid. So my daughter still rode alone. Over all very disappointed and feel that they are understaffed and under trained. If you don't have staff. Shut down. Also train your employees to help get on and off rides and the proper seating distributing weight so nobody gets hurt.
It's a nice little park with decent variety of rides for kids aged 3 thru maybe 8, or maybe older for the big slide and scrambler but definitely geared more towards the 3 to 5 year olds. My complaints are, I was there on a mid summer Saturday and there were multiple unmanned rides so you had to wait for staff to rotate to the rides your kids wanted. Obviously I can't control the whims and focus of my 3 year old and once they find something they like, that's all they want to ride. Also, my 6 year old is 49" tall but new to rides much like his 3 year old sister. He was told he's too tall to ride the plane ride that goes up in the air or boat ride and others that I had hoped he could take his sister on. She really didn't want to do these alone. He's all of 45lbs so it's not a weight concern. The rides for 48" and over were too rough and fast for him, so he's in an unfortunate spot.
A far cry from the Hoffman's Playland we grew up with. We’ve been to Huckfinn’s a few times since it opened but today will be our last visit. The rides are old and run down, I witnessed several safety concerns one of which could have been life threatening. The park was understaffed, the ride attendants were having to manage multiple rides. Ticket prices are too high, $20 for 8 tickets that will be gone in 15 minutes or $40 for 25 tickets which is too many for one kid. Finally what sealed the deal on the experience was how I was spoken to by the gentleman at the ticket counter, beyond rude and argumentative.
The staff is so nice and professional. They open up rides. They treated my son and I with respect and I had a great time! I am definitely coming back. I think late afternoon after 4pm is a good time to come. Sun is not so hot and more kids for the rides I got the 25 ticket packet pass for 40 bucks. Worth it
Loved this place for as long as I can remember, no matter the name or location! Loved bringing my kids! The new location is bright and open and the workers all friendly and food very good!
Whom runs/owns this place above a supervisor?!!!! Terrible experience!!!! When something Happens, it should not be brushed off or ignored!!!! Alot of the reviews are what I experienced today as well but yet nothing ever changes and of course nothing will be done about it because nobody cares!!!!Reservation recommendedNot surePrice for adult entry$31+
I absolutely love this place. Mike, Kyra, another worker who’s mother is a teacher, these workers treat my son Jason and myself with 100% kindness and professional behavior. I take my son there 3 to 4 times a week and I probably will have it replace all the other amusement parks that I know. Every time my son leaves the amusement park we know we had an amazing time
My child loves it here! We paid $30 and had PLENTY of tickets left over for next time. The kids working although young had alot of love ans respect for what they were doing
This used to be Hoffman's Playland. When it closed Huck Finn's bought the equipment and moved it to their location. So glad they did. This place is great for little kids. Inexpensive, staff is friendly, clean and small kid friendly. Great place for a Grand parent to bring the Grand kids.
