I went to this place in late October 2014 for a pain shot procedure. I received a phone call from the billing dept. about 3 days prior and was told that I was 100% covered and I would have no financial responsibility. It is important to note at this point that I had not met any of my $3000.00 deductible yet for the year or any of my out of pocket with United HealthCare. I got to the procedure and the lady up front confirmed there was no financial responsibility and everything went fine. Fast forward to January 2nd. I was due for another pain shot procedure. They called 3 days prior again but this time to inform me I would owe $567.00 up front. Now I understood at this point the new year had flipped my deductible. But I asked the lady why then didn't I have to pay on the first one being the fact my deductible had not been met and the same applied right now and I'm having to pay now? She had no idea and started babbling something about my out of pocket. I told here my out of pocket didn't even kick in until my deductible had been met anyway and none of my deductible had been met back in October. She got dismissive at this point. She would not even offer to investigate why that happened back in October. Anyway, I got to the appointment and paid the $567.00 responsibility which as indeed confirmed by the lady up front. The procedure went fine. Fast forward again to January 22nd. I was called again 2-3 days prior to the procedure and was informed that my financial responsibility would again be $567.00. I was better prepared for it at this point and went in and paid the lady up front at registration. I explained all that had happened and asked why again in hopes maybe she would be able to clear up the confusion I was having. She could not. I won't hold anything back here. By this point I was completely furious with the incompetence of the billing staff of this place. Anyway, the procedure went fine. At least the surgical staff is very good. The next week I go to the mail and find a bill from Humble surgical hospital for $1100.00!! I was shocked to say the least. So the next day I call the number on the statement and spoke to the lady asking why I now owe another $1100.00 to them. She told me she didn't show I owed $1100.00 but I in fact owed $2818.00!!!. I informed her about everything that had happened that I have already wrote about here. She told me the first time they must have assumed that my doctor collected my deductible back in October. Assumed? They couldn't tell by simply dialing into my plan whether a deductible had been collected? Then I asked her why then the two other times in January that they told me each time my financial responsibility was $567.00 each time. Needless to say I didn't get a straight answer there either. She finally told me if I had a problem with it that I would need to call my insurance company. I hung up. So my review? Ok here is my review. The medical staff was top notch. I had no problems there at all. The administrative billing department however are deceptive and dishonest. Either that or they are completely incompetent. I like my pain doctor. He has been very beneficial to me. But if I had any other choice, I WOULD NEVER EVER USE THIS FACILITY AGAIN. they are a bunch of deceptive lying crooks and should be ashamed of themselves how they conduct business. If I did my business that way, I would be out of business.
After being assured by my gastrologist that all of my procedures would be covered before I proceeded to schedule at Humble Surgical, I chose to go ahead and have them done. The staff was great and I even asked again at the facility if everything would be covered and as assured that my BCBS was sufficient to cover everything. I even called BCBS and they told mr that after my deductible was paid which was already mostly paid that I should only be out of pocket $48,70. So here I am, 2 months later with a $12,000 bill In hand because they went out of network for my labs. I was assured everything would be covered by everyone involved and now. Have this bill in hand? After numerous attempts and phone calls, we cannot get any help, even though one person we spoke to told us it should be handled. Our next step if I don't hear anything today is a lawyer. I'll hire Whoever if necessary. I don't want money, all we Want is this bill waived because I was told it was covered or would never have had those procedures done there and I can get past my doctors nurse to ask for his intervention. My next call today will be to the CEO.
BEWARE!!! Even though I have a decent United Healthcare plan and my doctor and Humble Surgical Hospital are both in-network, my choice to have an Endoscopy a 30 minute procedure performed at Humble Surgical Hospital will end up costing ME nearly $7,000. While the hospital and my doctor are both in-network... nothing else is covered due to the hospital's choice to use contracted Anesthesiologists and Pathology services that are contracted with very few if any health insurance companies. The Anesthesiologist admitted to me that they are only contracted with Blue Cross. I've already been forced to pay over $1,200 for their contracted anesthesiologist they did agree to cut that in half for me, and now I've received one bill for lab services for over $1,300 and will be receiving another bill shortly from the same lab for over $1,400 this lab BTW is headed by a doctor who's listed as Director of pathology on the hospital's website, and for some reason I will soon be receiving a bill for more than $2,700 from a completely different lab for the same services. I don't know why I've been charged twice by one lab and once by a completely seperate lab, but that's what I'm dealing with. I've called EVERYONE I can to try and get this sorted out and am getting nowhere, so now I'm turning to social media to try and warn people about suspect billing practices from the contracted doctors. please think twice before choosing this hospital. It's a shame I'm forced to write this, because the hospital staff themselves were top-notch... But unfortunately it was not worth $7,000 and their choice of contracted doctors have forced my hand in this case. You have been warned...
I had two major surgeries at this facility in the last 6 months. As with any medical facility, we hit a few bumps in the road. The overnight nurse seemed inexperienced and mistakes were made regarding pain management. However, when we complained, management swiftly stepped in to address all of our issues. I was quite impressed with their resolve to make corrections and implement improvement processes. It does appear as there are billing problems. Even though both procedures were pre-approved by my insurance, they have both been denied once claims got submitted. HSH billing office has worked with me to get the first set of invoices resolved paid by insurance, and we are now addressing the same problems for the second surgery. If you have never done medical coding or billing, then you should be aware insurance companies tend to change the rules as needed to prolong or avoid paying large claims. I feel that has been the case for me, and I'm overall pleased with the corrective actions taken by HSH. The surgical staff is nothing short of amazing! The entire team knows their doctors' preferences very well, as shown in their customized prep for each procedure. It is comforting to enter an O.R. where the staff and surgeon are notably in tune and everything flows smoothly. I would recommend this facility to anyone for outpatient surgery.
THIS FACILITY COMMITS INSURANCE FRAUD! STAY AWAY AND TAKE YOUR BUSINESS ELSEWEHRE! Had an individual call and say that BCBS subcontracted them to do lab work because of a new law and it was "in-network" and covered. They called and scheduled lab work and said a doctor would call me to confirm. The doctor called "Rhoda Watson" have NO IDEA who she is and never heard of her. They sent a mobile phlebotomist to my house to send off lab work that would supposedly help them with my medical history. I have since got 2 bills for over $12,000 and they submitted another one that was rejected. I have filed an insurance fraud investigation with BCBS. I have never heard of this hospital other than BCBS giving me the name of the facility or the doctor.
My wife received a $38,000 bill for lab services, >100 lab services performed one one day and the worst part....she has never set foot in that hospital. We do not even live close to that facility so we looked them up online and in February 2017 this hospital went bankrupt because AETNA sued them and won $51.4 Million due to excessive healthcare fees. Needless to say they have been reported to the Healthcare Fraud Hotline with our insurance company.
Went in for an EGD and had a horrible experience. The AC in the waiting room/lobby area did not work. There were no fans either for the people in there. Though the nurse behind the counter had one. Further, comments by another nurse leads me to believe this is an on going issue. Being that this is the Texas wetlands in the middle of summer, that's wholly unacceptable. I had an appointment for 8am and received a phone call telling me to check in at 7am. When I got to the facility, they had no appointment and said the doctor wouldn't even arrive until 9am. Though that's at least partially the fault of my doctor. However this lead to them constantly referring to me as "The Walk-in" rather than by name. In fact, I'm pretty sure they referred to me as The Walk-in more than by name. This is even after I objected to the term. The anesthesiologist was incredibly rude, referred to me as "The Walk-in" and gave me the very clear impression that she did not wish to deal with me. Though she was not alone in that attitude. No one really answered my questions, mostly because they didn't actually allow me to finish asking my questions before interrupting me. After I had already been taken to the back and had the ivy put in and in the middle of prepping me for the procedure, the paperwork lady came, shoved a clipboard in my face and told me to sign here, here, and here. Did not even attempt to explain what she was having me sign. When I was in the OR and tried to voice concerns I had, for example I had difficulty breathing at one point, they interrupted me and did not give my concerns any attention. I woke up as I was being wheeled down the hall to recovery. My doctor came in, talked at me, answered one question and scurried off. That's not the facility's fault, however... The nurse tending to me did not fully answer my questions. She straight up refused to answer some of my questions. She treated me like an idiot. At one point she mentioned the doctor came in and spoke to me, I tried to disagree wanting to say that he spoke at me, which in my opinion is extremely different than speaking to me. But she interrupted me, saying I don't remember "it's called drugs." That really irritated me. This was Friday morning and it's now midnight Sunday, so as you can see I actually remember quite a bit. Whoever put the IV in screwed up. It ended up hurting the entire time and when they tried to take it out, the IV fell out, well the tube connected to the needle. I am not the only one to have noticed this. The nurse that took it out complained about it to a couple other nurses. This whole procedure took place because I am almost always nauseated, including gagging and vomiting. When I tried to ask the nurse what the findings meant for that, she cut me off and said, in a rude manner, I should have asked the doctor before the procedure. Okay, I understand if she really didn't know the answer. She could have simply stated as much and referred me to the doctor. But it would not have been possible for the doctor to explain what the results meant before the procedure either, because ya know, he wouldn't have had the results. One of the things that really annoyed me above all else is that the whole time, they would talk amongst themselves about things they shouldn't have been talking about in front of me, things about other patients, as though I wasn't even there. When they did realize I was there, they would glare at me like I was intruding on their conversation. At one point one of the nurses actually turned to me and rudely said "can I help you?" In that tone you use when someone is ease dropping on your conversation. This is actually making me quite angry, so I'm just going to stop here. I'll finish with this, should I require a surgical hospital in the future, I will definitely not be using this facility. Even if I had to drive all the way to Austin, I would. As a truck driver, that drive is nothing to me.
Received EOB for $20,988.86 for services never received. I've never even been to this hospital. Found out that the hospital was in bankruptcy. Called BCBS and reported it as fraud. Rating really should be negative star.
Humble Surgical Hospital and Genesis Diagnostics sent me a bill for over 1,000 dollars and I have never set foot in this place. Go figure. I am reading the reviews and can't believe they are still legally operating in 2017.
Billing dept is the WORST. Knew billing code was wrong, ins co wouldn't pay the pursued me with a judgment for the FULL AMOUNT after promises were made of extending in-network benefits. Never stepped foot in this hospital, but I know their billing dept is JACKED UP!
