As much as I would have loved to have attended this school, I'm not satisfied with the visiting policy. I came miles and miles away from San Jose to come here and see the school including my missed friends. The staff was helpful and polite, but my time was wasted including a surprise visit for my friends. If you're a student coming to visit other students here during visiting hours, don't bother. They'll just send you out without an apology.
The school is horrible. Most of the kids are disrespectful and say the stupidest things such as asking the unnecessary questions. I was in a lockdown drill with a class and, let me tell you, if the lockdown drill was real, I wont have even written this review down because I would be dead by now and because they didnt listen to their teacher , they were on their phones with their flashlight on, and being loud. This school is definitely the worse.
It is not the bad school everybody thinks it is. Just because of the school's history and location lists IHS as a bad school. All those bad things, such as stabbings, gangs, and etc. happened 10 years ago. Now you have the casual bad kids the casual bad kids that are found at every school. People tend to focus on the negatives of the school and never takes into account the positives that independence gives. Independence has a large assortment of programs, such as music, dance, computers, and academies, that could help anyone achieve. The staff and teachers are always there to help, some may seem mean and sarcastic, but the teachers do care for their students. The teachers wants every student to succeed; just ask them, and that's the answer you will get. Socially, fights and bullying isn't a problem. In fact it rarely happens as of late. There are still druggies, but you can find those at any other school. Independence is like any other high school in the area. In my opinion, as a student, IHS provides more opportunities to succeed.
The restrooms are terrible. The toilet seats even have small burns and chips, and are covered in piss half the time. Chances are that Chetan Shah saw the only good restroom, in the large gym.
Education here Is decent food is over priced for way low quality great multicultural diversity open campus meaning no lockers but yet independence high school needs to stop kids from smoking herds such as weed and other drugs because I am a senior here and yet since my freshman year I see kids doing drugs in the bathroom and nothing is being done so I would not at this school is drug/smoke free bathrooms are dirty not to mention no locks are on stalls. Not that much violence during school hours... most staff is friendly but Yet some teachers aren't nice at all such as the new drama teacher MS close who is a cold hearted teacher who has made a friend of mine go through deep depression because this new teacher calls students stupid and what not which is not right in honest opinions.
Sophomore Love, love, love this school. Big campus. Many opportunities. Many programs. Many chances. A variety of lit events. Many caring and friendly students and staff. JOIN IDANCE, CHEER, AND C.L.U.B. 'Nuff said.
I'm going there now a lot of weed smokers and a little bit of gang stuff but other than that it's very good school and I'd recommend it for high school
