Independence High School (IHSMUN) is an extra-curricular educational simulation that allows students to emulate delegates from the United Nations and voice their opinions on real-world global issues.
Independence High School Model United Nations is a nonprofit organization allowing participants to emulate United Nations delegate, gaining a greater understanding of the United Nations and how to debate global issues. Our organization is centered off of three pillars in order to create an experience that will engender personal development: education, social networking, and community outreach.
-Education-
Our Model United Nations is educating the future generation about the world around them, exposing them to real world problems and the political world while aiding them on being well-rounded citizens of the country they representing. By being exposed to different perspectives and sides to global issues, ones gains adaptability and learns the complexity of the world today. One gains a better understanding of the career they choose to follow through the many branches in the Model United Nations including the World Health Organization, Food and Agriculture Organization, UN Industrial Development Organization, etc.
-Social Networking-
In the Model United Nations conferences, students encounter others from all walks of life. Our students will be exposed to different perspectives and ideas by different people from different parts of the world who have endured different experiences. It creates an opportunity for long lasting friendships and a chance to gain a greater understanding of how the world works.
-Community Outreach-
Students will partake in local community service projects every semester, giving back to the community. In the summer, our organization plans to travel within the nation and internationally for humanitarian aide.
