WIC is a federally funded program that provides healthy supplemental foods and nutrition counseling.
The program has an extraordinary 30-year record of preventing children's health problems and improving their long-term health, growth and development. WIC scored second highest in customer satisfaction among 30 high impact government programs in a recent survey. WIC serves over 8.2 million women, infants and children through over 10,000 clinics nationwide. In 2007, Maryland WIC served over 130,000 women, infants and children each month.
In accordance with Federal civil rights law and U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) civil rights regulations and policies, the USDA, its Agencies, offices, and employees, and institutions participating in or administering USDA programs are prohibited from discriminating based on race, color, national origin, sex, disability, age, or reprisal or retaliation for prior civil rights activity in any program or activity conducted or funded by USDA.
