Her dream was to teach.
The Katie Brown Memorial Library is dedicated to the memory of Katie Brown, a teacher candidate in DePaul University’s College of Education. Katie had a passion for learning and literature. She also had a gift for engaging and fostering a love for literacy in children, and hoped to share her passion through teaching at the elementary level.
A natural educator, Katie’s passion and joy was to help children discover the marvels of learning. Preparing for the classroom, she found great pleasure in introducing young minds to the adventures that were to be found in children’s literature. She was dedicated to and loved by the third graders at Saint Benedict School.
Katie battled and ultimately lost her life to cystic fibrosis. Her family hopes that this library will give other teacher candidates the resources that will facilitate excellence in their teaching careers. Through this initiative, pre-service teachers have access to a collection of quality, award-winning children’s literature to use during their training, continuing the work that was so dear to Katie’s heart.
