Kern County Library-Southwest Branch

Half the library closed rude people work there and took over 30 minutes to get a library card I think it's easier to get a home loan.. this should be a more streamlined process. And if you don't have all the required documents they shame you I feel like they were racist to other people I saw there. It's unfortunate.

Great place for kids to go for free activities and books.

Second floor closed due to "being unsafe at this time". Only the children's sections was available. Yes, that's as loud as it sounds.

Too noisy. There are kids running around and screaming. Parents need to let their children know a library is meant to be quiet. The only reason I gave it 2 stars, and not one, is because it has a nice selection of books. Please do something about the noise.

It's not a big library, but I was there for the Friends of the Kern County Library book sale. The book sale was in the corner with prices ranging $0.50-$3.00. The clerks in the book check-out counter are friendly and helpful. I enjoyed my time in this library. I wish Bakersfield had more libraries like this!

Large selection of books for all ages. The library consists of two stories, with the first with mostly children's/adolescent book, and the second with young adult/adult novels as well as nice study area. Great place with great books :.

This was a wonderful, heavily used library prior to Covid 19. Now that school is out, it needs to reopen FULL time in order to get our children reading over the summer! The adults in our community need the library as well! Ordinarily this library would be full of people of all ages every day, and yet now it is open only Monday and Tuesday for a few hours. This is such a vital library serving such a wide area of town — it should be open full time. It is essential to reopen it now!

Nice library. They definitely could use a few more tables and desks up stairs, especially ones with outlets. My biggest issue with this place is the cleanliness. I’ve gone on different days, different times, and their women’s bathroom consistently smells horrible, has clogged sinks, trash on the floor, no napkins, etc. It is something to be aware of if you are going to be there awhile, if not then you shouldn’t have any serious problems with the place.
