While the price was very affordable, I would have rather stayed somewhere else. The property is supposedly under or finished with renovation, but our room had not been renovated. The tile in the shower was original but patched in areas to be partially updated. I’m in the business of design and construction, so have a point of reference. I’m not one that needs new or high end, but I do want my room to be clean. The bathroom was barely acceptable in my opinion. The tile grout on the floor was very stained, especially around the toilet, and the floor hadn’t been vacuumed in who knows how long, and definitely not mopped hair behind the door. The door was visibly dirty from all the hands. There were only a few other guests at the time we were there, and being in a pandemic with little guests, I’d think they would use the time to keep up with things better. The towels were sparse and very worn, sheets were thin and there was no blanket so we were cold all night. Our heater didn’t work and there was no hot water in the morning because evidently they turn it off at night to conserve, but forgot to turn it on. The upside to this property is it has a huge interior space that used to have a pool, but they enclosed it so now it’s more like an atrium with the rooms surrounding it. This makes it very quiet and there’s virtually no road noise. It could be a nice property if they would just do some deep cleaning. If you want something in better shape, south Abilene is a better bet. The staff was very nice though!
So I read a lot of reviews before booking this hotel and I really don’t know how it got bumped up to a 3 star hotel. This isn’t a step up above a super 8. The “included breakfast” consisted of a few bagels and muffins. My room was relatively clean, there seemed to be dirt on the ground and the pillows did not look inviting with small stains on the pillowcase. Thank goodness a brought my own. There was a dirty wash cloth still hanging in my shower from the last guest so it made me question how thoroughly clean the rooms were after each guest. While it did have your standard amenities, it was extremely run down and drab. The price was low so maybe my expectations shouldn’t have been so high. The only redeeming quality was that the front desk worker was extremely friendly and accommodating and the price was good. However, next time I’ll be staying elsewhere.
This hotel is under construction. It was weird. It was cheap. I specifically asked for a shower and clean tub knowing that lower end hotels tend not to have clean rooms. The tub had someone else's hair on the walls. The tub did not drain. Since we drove I had all my cleaning supplies and cleaned the room myself. They said they only pick up towels every four days. Even for $60 a night I feel like we got cheated. BUT the staff was super friendly.
Check in was great. Easy and fast. Rooms were clean except for the influx of bugs. Not bed bugs. Not roaches. Roly poly bugs. Please be aware that there are no ice machines and be sure to ask if they have any upcoming receptions. Our last night there they had a wedding reception. Loud blaring music to the point it vibrated the glass panes in the room. Spoke to the hotel manager, asked if it could be turned down and was laughed at. Was told they paid their money and I replied I paid as well she laughed. Not cool.
Morning service or the lady that threaten said she would kick us out if we didn’t pay on time they’re not very nice but everyone else working up here past that certain time is very well mannered. The breakfast is very simple, but well served. The rooms are very nice and furnished to a perfection. The ac vents aren’t checked regularly your filter will probably be as bad as a beaver dam. The WiFi is slower then watching paint dry, that reminds me the place is under renovation. Not a good day time place to be, lots of bad reviews on it but overall not as bad as it looks.
Updated review 1/5 stars I am changing my review from 2 stars to 1 star because after posting the review, I received a phone call from the front desk saying, "we see you have a complaint about your room, so you can come to the front desk, get your money, and leave." It was 12:20am, and we are not from around here. I think it's really unprofessional and actually, unheard of to throw a guest out onto the streets for complaining about a dirty room. Especially since we were prepared to deal with the poor condition of the room, never complained to the front desk, and never requested a refund. They saw our online complaint, and this was their reaction. Shocking. I can't believe the reviews are not lower. The lady that checked us in was nice, but the lady who threatened to throw us out needs to be fired or re-trained. I'd give 0 stars if I could. Original review 2/5 stars Our room had a large stain on the bed cover looked like urine, and the TV was broken. We were moved to a second room that had sticky coffee marks on the bedside table, and the whole room smells like ferrets. We used my boyfriends body wash with hot water in the sink and brewed coffee to get rid of the smell. Stains on the bed sheet in new room, stains on the towel, spider living in a spider web in the bathroom... But, the hotel was cheap, and the lady at the front desk was nice. So, I feel like it was okay, for what we paid.
I have read some of these reviews and must agree with some of them. HOWEVER, I wish that their corporate office cared as much about people as this fabulous staff does !! Staff has to work with what they are handed. I used to be employed there many years ago under different corporate management and new owners have yet to bother to buy new towels, linen etc. Again, NOT the staff’s fault !!! When guests are rude to fabulous staff like these ladies, well, that just burns my biscuits !! We had a few problems with the condition of the room, the linen, towels and pillows etc. Ms.Katie and Ms.Amy were very apologetic and extremely helpful to find a solution. The problems at hand are not their fault, yet, they did everything in their power to help. We did not find any bed bugs nor other little critters. Ms.Jessica, the manager, applied a small, discount to our account. And something tells me that if she would have had authorization to apply more, she would have. They are pet friendly and yes, they do charge a daily pet fee. But you have to realize that many pets can cause quite a bit of damage. Pet friendly does NOT mean “pet free” people !! Katie, Amy, Courtney and Jessica are all #1 in my book in customer service !! They are very helpful, courteous, kind and attentive !! If you didn’t like your stay, don’t return. But know and realize, that these rates are appropriate for the quality. Other and much newer Hotels are not shy to charge you a nightly rate STARTING at $120+ per night. Kiva Hotel was within our budget and we will return. I expect these girls to show up at our home warming party soon !! This 5 star rating goes to the amazing STAFF !!
My sheets were dirty, called the front desk no one answered they were helping another guest and there was only one person there. I walked to the front and told the receptionist about it, she apologized and told me that the housekeeping employee was new, she gave me clean sheets but I had to change them myself. After I changed them I wanted to shower but the bathtub was still dirty and grimy!! Plus the shower curtain was not even put on and I had like two towels only. I also noticed that there is no hair drier. In the morning I found bugs crawling out of my sink. I would not recommend this place to anyone!!
It is a either a very new installment or renovation, but for what it's worth it is currently very nice to stay at. Dog friendly, soft beds, and my only complaint was the lackluster continental breakfast. Don't let that discourage you though. The place was very affordable for me and my family of nine. I recommend staying here.
2 stars for the good customer service, big room with microwave and mini fridge, but that’s about it. It’s a bit lonely hotel that used to be nice I think, but it’s so empty it makes you feel extra lonely. The indoor area outside your room echoes like crazy as it’s just one big empty room with 2 sad lonely couches next to a fireplace with zero privacy. The breakfast is nothing warm even though they have slots for a warm breakfast bar. One of the biggest annoyances was the lack of hot water. I had to let the water run for 10 minutes before it got warm, and that’s where it stopped, never getting hot. The microwave was dirty, and the heat would be on in the middle of the day but turn off at night and the bed had just a light blanket on it. I won’t stay here again, although it’s cheap and in a good location.
