La Vergne Parks & Recreation: Commitment to Community
The Parks and Recreation Department offers numerous programs and activities and provides safe, well-organized facilities for residents to use and enjoy. With a highly trained and talented staff, the programs range from skilled athletic teams like baseball, softball, football, and inline hockey to fun events for children such as egg hunts, trail-of-treats, and more.
The city has six beautiful parks. Four of them have picnic facilities, two have playgrounds, one is designed as a community garden, and another is open creekside green space that is dedicated to soccer.
In addition to the state-of-art outdoor parks, the city also takes pride in our indoor facilities. The Civic Auditorium was previously a combined grammar and high school before becoming exclusively a grammar school. The original building burned, then was rebuilt as an elementary block school – which also burnt in 1961. Students then attended school at the barracks of Sewart Air Force Base while the county built LaVergne Primary School on Stones River Road. The Mens Club – in turn – rebuilt the Civic Auditorium into the beautiful building it is today to be used for civic functions and programs.
The Multipurpose Building in Bicentennial Park is available for rental, but also used for special classes including baton twirling, summer camp, and more. In addition, the building is home to the City Court on the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Wednesdays where the municipal judge hears appeals to tickets and misdemeanors. You will hopefully not be there on the 2nd or 4th Thursday of each month for Traffic School. The Parks and Recreation Department offers a multitude of wonderful activities for all age levels. We hope to count you in as a program participant!
