About

Lake Tomahawk Park is a public park in the Town of Black Mountain.

Description

Lake Tomahawk is a 4.5 acre lake, surrounded by a .55 mile walking path. Fishing is allowed with NC Fishing Permits, and a fishing dock is provided for individuals with disabilities. There is also a Yacht club launch, and passenger boats without motors are allowed on the lake. Swimming is not encouraged, as this is a shallow lake that allows fishing.

There are two lighted tennis courts, one horseshoe court, a gazebo, and an outdoor swimming pool. An open area serves an an amphitheater for outdoor music concerts in the summer.

Also located at Lake Tomahawk is the Lakeview Center for Active Aging. The center is a 4500 square foot, two-story building used as an activity center for older adults. The facility includes a kitchen, meeting area, and restrooms, and is frequently used for community meetings and rented out for private events during evenings and weekends.

To reserve and rent the pavilion, either level of the building, or the pool, contact the main office at 828-669-2052. Discounts are available for residents of Black Mountain and non-profit groups.

Good place for a walk or to use their facilities. With the pond, it is also a good place to bird - and an e-bird public hotspot. Though there are so many better places for a walk in the mountains if the area.
Beautiful and quite place to come and take a walk around the lake. The wife and I enjoyed a leisurely stroll around the lake and checked out all the ducks and geese. People were fishing and having a picnic. Great little spot.
Lake Tomahawk is a beautiful place. It's a great and fun walk around the lake. It's not a long or difficult walk so you can really enjoy the scenery. I recommend it even on a hot day as it was the last time I was there a few days ago.
Beautiful walk. Not a big children’s playground, but we came for the walk so it was fine.
Great place to walk and run. Nice crushed gravel track and great views. Locals are always friendly and it doesn’t seem overly crowded most days. The only reason for 4 stars... the geese overrun the park in the summer. It’s like running through a mine field! They cover the trail in some areas, hard to dodge.
Beautiful place with a Lake and Mountains in the distance.
It's the most beautiful place to spend time with family and friends my kids love the park and fishing . It's a very memorable place for my family at which my kids aunt would go fishing with them almost everyday it was warm and now she has recently passed so there is only good memories made here at lake tomahawk. And new ones to be made .
My daughter loves the sand box at the children's park and I love walking around the lake.
I love lake Tomahawk. Around the lake it is very pretty, a great place to walk and hangout. They're benches by the water, and a gorgeous tree protruding towards the lake. In addition to the scenery is a playground, a pool, tennis courts and my favorite, the basketball court. The basketball court is what I use however it is not very well maintained, it's seen better days. The hoops are slightly tilted, the ground is uneven, but despite it not being perfect it is still Good, boasting 4 hoops in total. Will be returning frequently.
This wild duck was all snuggled up with a man who's lived here a long time and has helped to raise this sweet beautiful feathered love. She obviously loves him. Good job. Thanks for being nice to the wild life.
