RITZ AT THE BOURSE
5 Screens. This “Old City” theatre was opened by Ritz Theatre founder Ramon L. Posel in 1990. Ownership transferred to Landmark Theatres in March 2007. After over 22 years of operation, the theatre is still going strong.

RITZ EAST
2 Screens. The Ritz East theatre was opened by Ritz Theatres founder Ramon L. Posel in 1999.

RITZ 5
5 Screens. Founded by Ramon L. Posel as a three screen theatre in 1976, then converted to five screen in 1985, this classic theatre was one of the first to bring arthouse films to Philadelphia. On the back of each ticket was an uncredited quote — “People used to go to the movies as they now watch television — not to see something but to see anything. We’re trying to select... features for those who want to see something.” In 1992, the Ritz Five premiered Philadelphia-area native M. Night Shyamalan debut feature-length film Praying with Anger. Ownership transferred to Landmark Theatres in March 2007. After over 36 years of operation, the theatre is still going strong, never wavering from its founder’s original mission to give Philadelphia residents an opportunity to see the best in independent, foreign, and documentary film.

Cozy, well-maintained multiplex that screens new releases, indy and classic films. The staff are courteous and helpful. Ritz honors a senior discount to most shows plus they now offer $7 Tuesday night tickets for all. Getting there is a pleasant walk through the Independence historic district.
So glad to still have a large screen to immerse myself in the unique experience of film. Screen 1 is still wide and, with two aisles, offers seating in the center of the screen. Projection, sound and seating are first rate, if not the current standard of recliner or tiered seating. Regardless, the experience is enhanced by respectful audiences who let the film play without checking their phones or offering commentary. That may be the rarest element of a great movie going experience of all.
The folks here are great. It's a great art House theater. The popcorn is copious and so are the seasonings. I'm still finishing my small size today. The theater was clean and so was the bathroom. For those of you who will we be visiting the ladies room they even have a little shelf in the stall for your bag. It's a small staff so you may have to be a little patient but they're extremely friendly so please be nice to them.
Barbie traffic simply broke this theater. They seem to have oversold the showing as several people were left sitting on the floor. They also completely ran out of all concessions. They ran out of popcorn bags right in front of me after I wasted 15 mins online. I suggested they fill a cup and they tried to charge me $7 for a small soda cup full of popcorn. Not happy - they could have organized this better or at least helped a girl out with some popcorn.
What happened to The Ritz?! Wow! Such trash like Barbie or any other big time movie.. really? instead of films worth seeing.. how disappointing after SO MANY years of often good experiences. What a shame. I’ll no longer recommend. This place is one of the past.
This theatre has a serious mold problem. I’m allergic and began coughing within minutes of entering. I looked up at the ceiling and saw dozens of panels with severe water damage and significant visible mold growth. This place is a health hazard. My throat started closing, and I had to leave 15 minutes after arriving.
Dated theater. Handicapped parking directly in front of the theater.
I had a movie date here with my uusband today. This is a really cute movie theater for indie films. Cozy and unique. Almost has like and old theater vibe to it when walking in. Will visit again.
This is one of the best theaters I've been to because all of the chairs are at the same level in theater 1, so it almost gives off a "drive-in theater" vibe. It's better than how I explained it.
What a great little theater! It's old-school, no stadium seating, and you tend to want to sit somewhere from the middle to the back - much closer and you're looking straight up. You can see some of the Oscar movies here, and the Ocscar-nominated short films, which is fun. And they're set up to do talks and other fun movie-related stuff. Concessions aren't too expensive, and I think I saw a bar for coffee and hot chocolate, which is fun. Regular price is $12 but Monday & Tuesdays it's $7.
