Lee's Ferry

Description

Lees Ferry is a site on the Colorado River in Coconino County, Arizona in the United States, about 7.5mi southwest of Page and 9mi south of the Utah–Arizona border.Due to its unique geography – the only place in hundreds of miles from which one can easily access the Colorado River from both sides – it historically served as an important river crossing and starting in the mid-19th century was the site of a ferry operated by John Doyle Lee, for whom it is named. Boat service at Lees Ferry continued for over 60 years before being superseded by a bridge in the early 20th century, which allowed for much more efficient automobile travel.Lees Ferry served as a military outpost for 19th-century settlements in Utah, a center of limited gold seeking and since the 1920s the principal point at which river flow is measured to determine water allocations in the 246000mi2 Colorado River basin. Lees Ferry demarcates the boundary between the Upper and Lower Basins of the Colorado River; the states which make up each basin are legally allocated one-half of the river's natural flow. Glen Canyon Dam impounds the Colorado a short distance upstream and completely regulates the river flow past Lees Ferry. Lees Ferry has long been a focal point of American Southwest water disputes, and has been called "both the physical and spiritual heart of water history in the arid West". Today Lees Ferry is a well-known fishing and boat launching point, including for whitewater rafting trips through the Grand Canyon.

$30 to get in. Has some great historic remains from when a ferry ran back and forth on the Colorado river some old structures, machinery, and an historic ranch with an orchard, cabins, ranch house, cellar and more! Super cute and interesting. You can hike up the cliff side, along the river, into a wash and more. Has a few Sandy beach areas that the kids can play in. It was rather hot in April so just be prepared with water.
Very cool location and lots to see. The camping location is right by the Colorado River. What even cooler is you get a front row seat to watch the Paria River and Colorado River clash together. There isn't a Ferry though. That stopped running in the mid 1900's. But you can walk around the old home of the family that started the Ferry. So much to see here and so little time. Bring your fishing gear, kayaks, boats, hiking gear, or historic enthusiasts. There is something for everyone
A great place to visit from the car, or a great way to access the Colorado River. This is where the commercial rafting trips go downstream into the grand canyon. And, people can also go upriver towards Lake Powell and Glen Canyon Dam. There are services for those activities through different companies. Lee's Ferry is a park service area and besides the boat launching and spectacular scenery, there is a campground, nice little beach, as well as a walking historical tour of how Lee's Ferry came to be. It is 30 dollars per car to get here. But its worth it for the 30 minute drivers who come and go, those who want to spend 1-2 hours, half day, or for the multi day outdoor enthusiasts who will hike, camp, and boat in the area. Great little spot.
This place has a ton of beauty. The river is flowing, people are boating, fishing, kayaking and rafting. The road there is great, the parking lots have plenty of room and the RV resort is very nice with lots of spaces.
Beautiful Area with breathtaking views around every corner. I did a kayak trip from petroglyph Beach around Horseshoe Bend and it may be the singlemost amazing adventure I have been on. The Colorado is peaceful and witnessing wild horses drinking water not even 100 ft from me... priceless!!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo wait
Entrance: park kiosk We have an annual park pass, so we just display it in the window. Beautiful sights in our drive in. Went about 2pm. Colors are incredible. We didn't know what to expect and we are glad we stopped. There are bathrooms on site, a few paved parking lots and a nice RV campground. You can hike and fish here too. Area has lots to offer for various hiking skill levels.
It's the Colorado River. Part of the Glen Canyon National Park. Good for fishing and start point of ur rafting adventure. Check put their activities, just Google Lee's Ferry. Enjoy!
Fee area, but even the views at the entrance are spectacular. Was there at sunset, so didn't enter but was greeted by extremely beautiful views of the setting sun reflecting off the cliffs and rock formations. Stunning.
The drive out to Lees Ferry and wandering around the area was all quite picturesque. So much so that we mostly forgot to take pictures as we took it all in! The geology in the area is fascinating and the water against the vermilion cliffs is striking. We had a great time exploring this area and we fully plan to go back to go fishing!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNoPrice for adult entryFree
Lee's Ferry is 2.5 miles from The Grand Canyon's South Rim. It is the closest area that you can get into the water. There is a $ 30.00 vehicle fee to enter. The water flows on the river drive. Beautiful view from the bridge.
