Controlled Mentoring in the Art of professional sewing.
LiLi Fashion Academy (LFA) program is a nonprofit Organization focusing on providing educational sewing skills to women who are willing to learn how to be a seamstress. The students will be empowered with an emphasis on social skills development and financial self-sufficiency. The potential market for sewing consists of every person age in the geographical area of San Diego, CA. At the present time, there are not many sewing schools that offers direct competition.
The program will develop each participant’s employment. This class is designed to start students to becoming a sewing genius. The students will come away knowing the basic principles of threading the machine, working the controls, selecting stitches, sewing straight lines and curves and sewing basic seams pushing it to specific sewing techniques – that is covered in the Basics I and II classes. With this one-year training class, the students should be ready to start working with their own machine and start developing new sewing skills.
Sewing, will challenge the students to think about the role making clothes has had throughout history. Sewing machines helped to emancipate women as it gave them a commercially marketable skill. As sewing became an industry, sewers organized themselves into unions so that those in the textile trade could make a living wage and support their families. We believe as our students learn how to sew for themselves and others, they will obtain commercial marketable skills that will encourage the students to become entrepreneurs and financially support themselves, their families, and supply jobs for people in their community.
