Lincoln station (Illinois)

Description

Lincoln is an Amtrak train station in Lincoln, Illinois, United States, at Broadway and Chicago Streets. Service is provided by Lincoln Service and the Texas Eagle. The station is a small brick shelter. Adjacent to the shelter is a brick Spanish Mission-style depot building, disused as of 2016, constructed by the former Chicago and Alton Railroad and later used by the Gulf, Mobile and Ohio Railroad. Although not used by Amtrak, the historic depot was renovated for commercial use and was long occupied by a restaurant. Plans were announced in June 2016 to renovate the disused depot for reopening in 2017.HistoryMany pioneers of Illinois's Logan County tried to develop towns within the county that could become the county seat and business center for local farmers. Early plats and developments include the Postville Courthouse State Historic Site and the Mount Pulaski Courthouse State Historic Site. A final decision on the county seat was not reached until 1853, when a railroad, the predecessor of what was to become the Chicago & Alton, laid tracks through the county as part of a trunk line from Chicago to St. Louis. Railroad management selected a site along the tracks for development, and named the new town after the railroad's lawyer, Abraham Lincoln.

Small, decent, and convenient enough, train delayed about 10 mins...however...bathrooms are always locked :
Nice little depot. If you need to stop at our leave from Lincoln there is no reason not to consider this station.
Very small and clean station..
Jts Lincoln not much here couple of restraints and alot of bars lol
If Abraham Lincoln took Amtrak, then this is where he did it. While we think of Lincoln living in a log cabin, it doesn't occur to us that the last trees in the state were used to make it. There just aren't any apparent forests here in these endless corn fields and windmill farms. I was here aboard a train in July 2021. It was raining. Everything was wet, colors were saturated. There weren't any people hanging about. This may be a ghost town.
Fast bumpy ride definitely not meant for people who need a quiet ride kids yelling people laughing loudy I got a headache and it's Def not helping seems like alot more stops then would my ticket said as well Security officer Marcus Taylor was helpful and nice somewhat no vending machine in waiting area homless laying around felt unsafe lucky my train was on a little behind schedule no vending machines in waiting area as well 3/26
Arrived 45 minutes early as instructions requested at least 30 minutes early arrival. Showed up and entire parking lot was fenced off. No parking at all though website indicates free parking and did not show it was currently unavailable. Walked through fences and could not find a soul to talk to. Luckily had friends that allowed us to park our car in town during our trip.
Love this new and remodeled station as of 2018. Inside waiting, restrooms, plenty of parking, very attractive and only 2 blocks from Gazzardos Restaurant and Sorrentos very cool pizzeria and many more shops.
Worst train station ever, train was delayed 2 hours . Heater only stays on 5 mins at a time every 15 mins it's only 15 degrees out side . Hope fully it will be better after they finish construction on the old building
Covered wait area. Plenty of parking. 2 convenient stores.
