The sites are large and private. Less buggy than the Hunting Island campground, but it is very humid and not much airflow. Definitely take care picking your site. Some are very pretty with marsh views while others border the road and have a fair bit of road noise. Beach is not walkable from here but very close drive. A major potential issue though is if you get a good storm, some of the sites get completely swamped - an inch or two of standing water across the whole thing or most of it.
This was a quiet campground Live Oak located with a handful of sites right on the marsh. It was centrally located to Edisto beach as well as a piece of history at Driftwood Beach. The campground itself offers large sites as well as some tighter sites. In the campground itself—there isn’t much for children to do, but we made the best of it. The state park does offer activities at the Learning Center, but you do need to drive there. The outside of the bathhouse looked presentable, but we never went inside. There is small camp store and the campground didn’t appear to offer WiFi. There was a lot of garbage by the dumpsters and 1 dump station made for a wait, but they do look like they are in the process of adding to the dump station. The campground has beautiful Oak Trees that are admirable and provide plenty of shade!
Very poor camp site all around. Sand site that washes out with rain and literally floods with 2-3 inches of standing water. Litter visible throughout the grounds in the bushes. No dumps at individual sites or on the campground. To dump, you must travel out of the campground to a site across the hi-way used by all campers in both campgrounds. This will take a minute or 90. State grounds should be better than this.
This has always been one of our favorite places to camp. We have always loved it because it was somewhat of a "hidden gem". Unfortunately the last several times we have been, it has been harder to get a reservation due to its popularity. And as comes along with more people, more noise lol. The campground was still pretty nice. The bath houses left a little to be desired, with a few items in need of repair, which could just be due to the higher than normal use. Other than that the park was fairly clean and trails were well maintained.
Nice camp area at Edisto Beach State Park. Spaces are mostly shaded and RVs have electric and water, but no sewer connections. There is a dump station across the road from the Live Oak entrance. You need to bring your own fresh water for drinking and cooking, the water is too salty. The trails are nice.
We are in a rustic cabin in a State Park. The cabins have a bedroom with a double bed, full bath, full kitchen No dishwasher nice great room 1/2 the cabin size with a back porch for sitting. Wonderful views of the salt march.
Typical state park campground in terms of being no frills. But definitely in our top 3 parks to camp at in SC. It's quiet. Close to the beach, but still a good way on foot. So if you plan on walking the beach I'd suggest driving. They have 50 and 30 amp. No sewer hookups but bathrooms have always been clean. Nice walking trails on the live oak side, and I think they have some fishing/crabbing areas along the marsh, too. There's also a public boat landing close by. Haven't ever camped on the beach side so can't speak for that campground, but I'm sure it's nice as well. I think it got some upgrades after the storm a couple years ago, including 50 amp service, so we'll definitely be checking it out as soon as we can nab a site. There's a few local restaurants we like. McConkey's next to Bilo is one of our favorites for fried seafood at a decent price. They can get crowded in the warmer months, tho, and sometimes close early when it's slow. La Retta's has great pizza. Whaley's Store is also a restaurant and serves some great fresh local seafood. We've also heard good things about Sea Cow. And driving in the other direction like you're leaving Edisto, the Old Post Office is supposed to have great southern food. As native South Carolinians, Edisto beach is tied with Hunting Island as our favorite beaches in all of SC. It has a natural shoreline, and you won't find any high rises even outside of the state park area. Plenty of shells and sharks teeth to hunt. And it's not unusual to see deer crossing the road, so drive with caution. Edisto is the quintessential laid back beach town. It's quiet and no one seems in a hurry, making it an ideal place to relax and unwind.
Small campground with medium size sites, mix of well screened and open, very quiet, well maintained grounds and comfort station. Good biking on park roads and flat easy trails within park. Just outside park on road bike lane links to lane into Edisto village with more on road and dedicated lanes.
We made reservations for 111 camp spot. Upon arrival, we asked the ranger if they had availability for beach access on the other campground. They did ,46 camp spot, so we stayed over there. Did not disappoint either!
This place is gorgeous! We didn't stay at the campground itself but we did check out the walking trails. We did half of the red, half the orange trail, and the purple trail which had gorgeous views. We passed the tent camping sites which had amazing views and there was adequate parking
