A very interesting and unique memorial to those from the Pelican State that perished on the battlefield or after from their wounds. I liked the torch she holds in particular, since it is gold, it shines very nicely in all light levels. It was sculpted by the same lad as the nearby Mississippi Monument, which is similarly unique. Worth a stop if coming through, cheers.
The monument to the soldiers from the State of Louisiana who fought at Gettysburg was dedicated in 1971. Louisiana sent over 3,000 men to Gettysburg with the Army of Northern Virginia. Over 700 of those became casualties. The monument was sculpted by Donald DeLue, who also created the nearby Mississippi monument.
Great-Great Grandfather was part of the Washington Artillery from New Orleans.
Absolutely impressive memorial to the Pelican State. Well worth a stop for a closer look.
