Awesome looking building from the outside. I did not get the chance to explore the interior of this magnificent civic structure. Be sure to check out the Veterans Park adjacent to the court house. Dare of visit was Wednesday August 31, 2023.
The Luzerne County Courthouse is a beautiful building. These photos are of the rear entrance where the parking is. There is an elevator to use to get to from the parking lot to the basement floor of the building. Where the security starts. Have to go through metal detectors and have bags put through x-ray. After a short walk you'll come to the elevators to take you where you need to go in the building. Be sure to stop and admire the breathtaking architecture and the beauty of this building. With stately marble columns, marble staircases, stained glass and complete with cherubs painted on the ceiling. I wasn't able to take pictures at this time as I was there with my family on a personal matter.
My husband and I had our Wedding in the Courthouse rotunda yesterday afternoon and it was a fairytale come true! From the building and grounds department, to the janitorial staff, to the security guards, everyone was so kind and helpful. Eugene, Donna, Bill, and the maintenance man on staff Friday evening were especially so kind and communicative. Thank you for allowing such a beautiful space to be used!!!
Ok. I was in the courthouse for a hearing. It doesn't matter if I was there for criminal proceedings or as lawyer or as a friend a bystander, juror, witness, old man priest or old lady. I walked into Judge Lupus' court room #4 at 9am and it was packed. Standing room only. Does the courthouse have to abide by fire code safety rules like restaurants or movie theaters? Apparently NOT?!? If there was a fire there would be a rush of people a stampeed and people would be trampled to death or die from smoke inhalation or burn to death. Another story. Anyway. I stepped through the doors and there were people everywhere. No where to sit. Except the jury box or the Judges chair both which were off limits. I was in the court room maybe 10 seconds looking for a place to move when a the door behind me opened forcefully and the door handle struck me in the lower back right on my ribs and kidney. SAW STARS..I almost went down on a knee it hurt so much. I looked and tried to turn around and it was a county sherriff. Long story short. He was bringing in 4 or 5 prisoners from the jail so he was probably in a hurry and obviously having a bad day. Was cocky, ignorant rude to say the least, hair cut so short it looked bald. Late 20s early 30 at.the most 6'1" or so. I know many of the sherrifs there and this guy I didn't see before but I haven't been to.the courthouse in over 2 years. But he pushed open the door with the force of a linebacker and i had just walked in. I complained an said he didn't have to shove the door open that fast or hard and he said "Don't stand in front of it." There was no where to move let alone stand!! He was a real smart ass. I was going to complain and almost left and went down to the first floor where the sherrifs office is. What if I was a little CHILD? Or an older lady? Or some ash hole lawyer who did push the issue and files a lawsuit ?!? He could have been suspended sued or maybe even lost his job depending or all 3. Anyway, I figured he was having a rough enough day dealing with transporting prisoners so I let the matter go until today when I decided to call down to the sherrifs office after talking to a lawyer. Any of you that have to go to court or are just looking to sue for some reason go to the courthouse on trial day and walk in and let the door close behind you. I did notice later on after lunch break they had a female sherriff standing by the door directing people when they walked through the doors. Somone should have been there all morning. It is not the people's fault they schedule all the hearings on the SAME DAY in on PACKED courtroom with no direction. If no one would show up for any hearings..can you imagine? Anarchy?? What would they do? There would be a stampeed and panic. Marshall Law? Why are there no fire code signs posted??!!?? Happy Easter God Bless.
I'm pretty young and have never been in any sort of trouble so coming to the courthouse to prevent my licsens suspension made me nerous. But everyone was friendly and helpful couldn't askfor ask for a better experience Thank you
Very professional staff. Went to get criminal records of my ex wife and the gentleman at clerk's office was very helpful. Very pleasant experience.
Judge Michele A. Varricchio, should be removed. This is a WRC judge. She is sexist and likely corrupt.
I live in Hazleton and i need to change the name of my son, what or where do i have to go? i dont have money for a lawyer.
I've payed late taxes, & have got a pet tag.
Clean as usual, friendly security at the door.
