Had my initial appointment with the DR and it was not good. Didn’t even introduce himself, never explained to me about my x-rays, never asked if I had any questions. I had a general sense that he didn’t even care and seemed busy showing off for another doctor who was present. I will not go back to him and will go to an orthopedic doctor most likely in the John Hopkins or AAMC health system. His style is not conducive to gaining trust with his patients.
Dr Hungerford performed two hip replacements for me within seven months this year. . I am a high risk due to other medical issues. He took all of the necessary medical precautions to avoid complications and was successful both times. He is exemplary in the minimally evasive hip replacement field. I trust him unequivocally. Two of my family members will be using Dr Hungerford for their hip replacements. Three of my friends have also had incredible results with him. I now have two twenty nine year old hips! I wish that I had done it sooner. Thank you Dr Hungerford for giving me my active life back! His staff is excellent. Mercy was outstanding. We are fortunate to have this talented team so close. Thanks also to Dr Peter Lucas! My vascular surgeon that worked on tandem with Dr Hungerford. You both are my heroes.
Dr. Hungerford and his staff were awesome from the very beginning of my hip replacement experience. He replaced the hip and I was up and walking the next day and without a cane within two weeks. It's coming up on a month now and my hip is working really well. I did research on him before I chose him and I made the right decision. He doesn't talk much but will answer any question you have, just have it ready. His staff was grade A all the way. Friendly and easy to talk too. Mercy hospital was a good choice as well. Very clean and the food was great and I had a private room. Long story short, he's a great surgeon.
My former orthopedic doctors/surgeons have retired. I went to Dr. Hungerford based on his reputation per colleagues of mine. I found him to be very professional, helpful, and providing me reassurance with my bone disease. I am happy that I went and left feeling encouraged by his assessment and professionalism. Top doc.
My PCP recommended Dr. Hungerford, saying the other Orthopedic Doctors I had seen were afraid to operate on my knee as too many other people had already been inside i.e. 4 prior knee operations in the late 70's. I made an appointment with Dr. Hungerford and he identified the problem right away I had been bone on bone for about 15 years and suggested a total knee replacement. Everyone at Mercy was wonderful. Dr. Hungerford is a class act and the Chief of Orthopedics at Mercy for good reason. His P.A., Kathy is wonderful, too. I had the surgery three months ago and am well on my way to recovery after some intensive PT. Thank you Dr. Hungerford and you wonderful team!
Had a very unprofessional experience. After being referred by another Mercy doctor, I made an appointment with Dr. Hungerford for a chronic knee issue. I brought along recent MRI imaging. I waited well over an hour just to be taken back - it was a zoo. Nurses guided me to an X-Ray room as if that were standard procedure. I went along with it. Next I waited 20+ more minutes for Dr. Hungerford. He refused to look at the MRI imaging I brought with me, did a cursory at best physical "examination" of my knee, glanced at the X-Rays and said that my "kneecap looks high." He concluded by saying that he's "not really a knee guy" at that I should go see his friend at Hopkins. That was it! Cumulative close to two hours for nothing at all, which is bad enough. BUT THEN I got a bill for $64 out-of-pocket for the X-Rays on top of the bill for the visit. X-Rays that I never asked for, that were not necessary I brought better imaging, that were never described as being at additional cost, that were not used for any medical diagnosis or treatment, and that were not given to me to take! I intended to dispute the charge but I got a call yesterday threatening to refer me to collection if I didn't pay up immediately. Normally I don't scare at things like that, but I am currently getting a background check for a new job and don't want to show up on the wrong list. So they have me over barrel, and I paid. But they get this review in return, so that everyone knows about their disgusting business practices. AVOID!
In the early 2000s I was diagnosed with avascular necrosis in both hips. At the time the choices were core-decompression or total hip replacement. I relied on his judgement. 2 decompressions for each hip before total hip replacements. The chances for success for core decompressions was 40%. In the end I had the replacements. By then both legs and the muscles around the sites were devastated...mangled. I relied on Marc Hungerford. He and his PAs also gave me all the drugs I wanted...and then..."just taper off!" Well, you just don't taper off oxycontin after 4 years of surgeries, physical therapy and pain, lots of pain. I woke up during one of his surgeries for core decompressions because he had decided to do BOTH in the same surgical session. I woke up in seering pain and vomited before they put me under again as he had mis-calculated how much time it would take - as well it is standard procedure to only work on one leg at a time. I asked him about it after and he said, yes, that indeed, it happened. No apology. I now know that I also have Ehlers-Danlos, which complicated my scaring and recovery - the symptoms he dismissed as just wanting more drugs. I have not see the good Doctor more than 5 years or so and my body never fully recovered from all the stress of 6 major surgeries in 4 years. The last time I saw him all he cared about was whether the prostheses were working in good order - they are. But my legs and the muscle surrounding the prostheses continue to give me more pain than the original issue. Take his recommendations with caution. I'm sure I bought him at least a boat, or his home.
I recently had my second hip done by dr.hungerford.The staff at mercy was great along with dr hungerford and his PA julia.If you are in need of a surgeon see dr hungerford and his team they are the best!
He was positive, and made me feel very comfortable that he could get the job done! He is very experienced and competent. I would recommend him to anyone and would use him again.
Amazing!!My husband had bi lateral hip replacement and recovered faster than expected with minimal scaring.Great Dr. & staff
