One of my favorite trails in Jefferson County. From the parking lot take the trail up, stay to the right on Red Rocks Trail which merges with Morrison Slide Trail and you’ll climb up to the “summit.” Great views of the front range, early morning on most weekdays is generally the best time to do this loop. The loop back to the parking area takes about an hour and a half. Restrooms: Seasonal restrooms at the parking lot Dog-friendliness: Dogs must be on a leash
Beautiful, peaceful park when we went today we didn’t see another soul. There are probably more challenging paths to take than the trail I did, but it’s also great for those like me who aren’t natural athletes! Sweet stream with an equally sweet bridge over it.
I stopped by on Monday afternoon 12:30 to 2pm and the area was very quiet and clean. There were several paths and a stream. The area we were in was well shaded.
This has been my go-to trail for 15 years. Beautiful scenery but gooting can be challenging at points. not too crowded other than weeken afternoons. watch for snakes and mtn bikes.
Great trails for hiking and biking. Beautiful scenery. Some of the best natural mtb drops I've seen so far in front range.
Beautiful easy to moderate hike. Wear hiking boots. Terrain gets rocky and steep in area's. Very dog friendly. Restrooms: clean & available. Dog-friendliness: Lots of dogs.
Good place to hike near Denver. A variety of trail options as to length and challenge level. Views of Red Rocks from trails on the south side are beautiful and good ones of Denver from trails at the top. Higher trails are a bit rockier and can be a challenge after snow…watch out for ice. Watch out for rattlers on hot days. It gets crowded during summer season and on the weekends so hike there during the week and off season for the least amount of hassle when parking. Overall a good place to run, walk or hike.
Tons of great hikes in this area, very close to town easy to get to from just about anywhere. There are clean restrooms at the main trailhead, and all the trails are well marked and easy to follow. If you are looking for some amazing views of Red Rocks and a change to make a great loop I would recommend taking the Red Rocks trail and the Dakota Ridge trail to make one large loop. I would definitely recommend this area to new hikers. Lots of great views everywhere you look and most of the trails can be hikes all year long.
I was able to find parking easily enough in late-afternoon during the middle of the week. We walked a short way up the trail and spread a blanket for a picnic. Dog owners seem to be pretty good about picking up after their pets and packing it out. There are trash cans at the trailhead. Give it 4 stars because of the proximity to the interstate road noise. Restrooms: Composting toilet was clean when I visited. Dog-friendliness: Great place to take the dog for a walk. Most pet owners are good about cleaning up after their pets. Bring your own poop bags. There are waste cans at the parking lot. Picnic area: There are a table or two for picnic right near the parking lot. Otherwise, bring a blanket can find a nice spot with a view along the trail.
Easy drive from just about everywhere in Colorado. Ample parking, trail guides available at the entrance. Public restrooms, picnic tables and a rolling creek to check out. Beautiful views, steep trails at times and separate trails for mountain bikers. Plus a graveyard with old tombstones to find. Overall, a great place for a day hike :-
